Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
I had my surgery Nov. 2, 2011 - Prior to Surgery I lost 84 lbs on my own through exercise, changing eating habits, and B12 injections.
Date of Surgery I weight 301 lbs
Now: 263 - STUCK!
I don't know what to do, what to change or what not to change... I'm personally sick of seeing everyone on face book who had surgery with me loose and loose weight. I feel like a failure and did I just waste a ton of money for nothing? Seems like only I could screw up weight loss surgery.
I work a demanding position 13 hours a day, behind a desk - Is my sleeve broken or am I?
Can anyone help me?
Re: Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
Hugs! I've seen other sleevers take the 5 day pouch test. It might help you get your body back into weightloss. mode.
Re: Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
First of all, congratulations on losing 98 lbs! That is awesome. I am sorry you are going thru this. Are you able to get any excercise? I work a desk job also, and when I don't get some good excercise at least 3-5 times a week, I don't lose an ounce. How long has it been since you lost anything? Maybe you're in a stall. Do you track your food? I have to, otherwise the carbs find a way of sneaking themselves inr and can wreak havoc on our weight loss. I hope you can find the balance to start losing again....good luck!
Re: Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
You are either eating too little or too much of not healthy things. You gotta exercise daily. Just like a regular thin person does. Everything I put in my mouth i say "is this the healthiest i can get right now" Go unprocessed foods route.
Re: Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
I know whaf yoh mean. I Lost a 100 Pds prior. It took me 2 yrs but had surgery and weight loss is sloowww. I got to 180/179 and bounce. I have a knee injury now so cant do cardio not even swim or knee swells. So im very eager to follow this thread. J do wish u luck.
Re: Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
Okay, so just to reply across the thread there... I lost a lot of this weight by myself - through diet and exercise.
Now, I paid all this money to have WLS - and this is gonna sound insane but hear me out objectively...
Why did I pay all this money to have a sleeve, that I hoped would make a drastic difference - instead I am told to watch what I eat etc...
I am going to be very real here - I wanted to see faster results point - blank - period -
I wanted to not only speed but I wanted to feel more like myself again now I just feel worse -
Really, not loosing weight after WLS? It's hysterical if you think about it - Am I a Fool?
If I am consuming a fraction of what I use to - Why isn't weight loss more visible?
I have been told by many doctors over the years, "Its not what you it, its how of it you eat" Which obviously is a BS.
Its always been a struggle for me to keep weight off, I would loose then gain - same pattern all time - Gets old
There has to be a better way than this - I have sat here and watched people lose 20+ lbs a month after surgery -
I have yet to see any result like that - Nothing substantial - I just feel like I wasted a shit load of money for nothing -
If I have to jog 5x a time and eat crap I hate - I could do the same thing without a sleeve and obtain the same results.
I am sure this may upset some people, but come on if anyone is feeling like this step up and admit it! I seriously cant be the only one.
I started to loose weight in April 2001 Weight: 373
Gastric Sleeve Date 11/2/2011 Weight 301
Today - Weight 263
38 Lbs in 7 months - I lost more without the sleeve!
Re: Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
from ehat I understand with smaller tummies and some lose the ghrhilin horomone which makes us want to eat. I neveer did that dunno. Also once you detox off of carbs you dont have the bad cravings.. Sometimes I feel just like you do . I lost about the same weight as you aftrrwards.im actually twenty times stricter on myself then when I did lose weight prior. Also for me if I have a few off days I gain weight quickly. I mean if I eat only 1200 calories I gain. sometimes sorda wished I had the bypass. I am proud of people that it works wonders for. Me it has been a huge struggle.
Re: Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
I've lost 36 pounds since surgery nearly six months ago. I have expressed this exact sentiment to my doctor several times. If I have to exercise and follow a 600 cal strict diet, I could have lost more on my own. I don't know what it will take for me to feel differently but it's been a long journey. People who had surgery with me are at goal and i'm at 189, down from 225 at surgery. I have 60 pounds left .I also reason that if I'm eating 1000 cals versus my former 4000, why am I not losing faster. According to myfitnesspal I should be losing about 10 pounds a month based on what I eat. I'm not. So I dunno. I'll let you know if I have any epiphanies.
Re: Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
i have not lost as much weight as i thought i would have and a friend who had her surgery the same day has been going great guns, except her hair is falling out and now she has gall sludge and has to have her gall bladder out which can happen from rapid weight loss. That is one thing I don't want to happen and although a few people have said my hair looks thinner I cannot see it coming out in clumps. For me I think I need to measure what I eat and try that, but although I haven't had the rapid weight loss I just keep thinking to myself that I wont gain back the weight I have lost so far and that has to count for something. I'm really trying to get motivated with exercise, but this is waning. I can also seem to eat a little more than others measuring may let me see how much i am eating. Maybe we will have to have our own elite group called the turtles, steady and sure wins the race. I know i made the right decision and have no problem recommending the sleeve.

Re: Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
Look I know I have not had the surgery yet,but I love my Dr and I know it has to do a lot with there help. Example are u drinking soda? He told me carbination will stretch your pouch. You need your vitamins and must have 80 grams of protein a day. Also check with your local hospital a lot of them have baratric meetings to get help with others going through it. One other thing have you had your thyroid checked. I know if its the slights elivated that will bender weightloss.. hope any of this helps you
Re: Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
I would get to your Primary Care Physician and get some testing done.
This could be an endocrine issue. Be sure and request a FULL thyroid panel, many docs only do a TSH and your T4 these are not sufficient tests to determine if you have an issue, they should be doing:
TSH, total T4, free T4, free T3, reverse T3
There are other things that can be tested as well, and many docs get those test correct but for some reason they just don't do a full panel for thyroid.
When someone is REALLY working on losing and they just can't often there is something else going on. Track ALL your food, even a bite here and there and see if perhaps it might be consumption related but in the meantime check out the bloodwork, there might be something out of your control going on.
Good luck
Re: Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
This is my fear. But surely if I do what they tell me, I should do ok. I don't know how much to eat so am eating very little. Tonite I made navy bean soup and it increased my calorie content a bit. I hope I didn't mess up.
Re: Not Loosing Weight! & Miserable
Hi All,
I too have not lost any weight. I did cheat a bit but not to the extent were I'm pigging out. I'm going to start the 5 day pouch so I can start over. I can eat anything without any issue at all. The food does not go back up or vomit. I do eat but I stop when I know my stomach is full. Am I the on,y one that can eat anything without feeling sick? I hear others can eat 2 tablespoons but I eat like 8-10 tsp. of food? Do you gus think I over stretched my stomach because I never followed my diet pan?
