Problems tolerating water after sleeve?!?!? Say it ain't so!
I love, love, LOVE water and am generally a very thirsty girl. I've never found it filling, unfortunately, or I really should already be slim with as much water as I drink. I just have a dry mouth and throat feeling if I go without water for too long and I was really kind of freaked out reading the number of sleevers who can't tolerate water, let alone enjoy it. My main concern was forcing myself not to drink as much or as quickly as I'm used to, but now to think that it might make me feel sick is really a huge bummer.
Are sugar-free hard candies like s/f Jolly Ranchers or s/f Lifesavers allowed in the hospital post-op to combat dry mouth? Knowing myself and based on other threads I've read on what to pack, I've ordered some Biotene Moisturizing Mouth Spray but I think that will only go so far.
As for when I get home, would it work to freeze Isopure Protein Juice Drinks (flavors like Blue Raspberry and Alpine Punch) into popsicles? This is what I'm envisioning doing for the first little while to re-train my brain and get used to the notion of slow and small sips. Would freezing negatively alter the protein the way they say overheating does?
I really, really hope I come out of this with my love affair with water intact. If not I suppose I'll adapt and learn to become an herbal tea lover!

I am 2 weeks post op and I still love water. I can't chug it anymore, but I can drink small and frequent sips and it goes down fine. My first week post op I combated some nausea so my stomach handled crystal light type drinks easier than plain water, but now I am back to plain water and it is fine!
I also like water with lemon still. funny though, I lost my taste for coffee!!!

Hello and Congratulations. we share the same love. I love water and was afraid of this as well. I was sleeved on May 15th and the first thing I remember asking for was water. My mouth was like the desert. The only thing I got was ice chips and I remember letting those ice chips roll around my mouth and over my lips for as long as I could. When I returned home I had to train myself how to sip water and not my usual gulp and swallow. I still prefer water over crystal light or any other beverage. Good Luck and speedy recovery!

I was sleeved on May 1st. as soon as I came out of surgery I was asking for ice chips or water, my mouth was so dry. The next day when they started me on clear fluids, I got nauseous the first time I attempted water. When I got home, I found I could not drink plain water, and even more, I couldn't tolerate cold beverages. Now, 3 weeks out, I can finally drink cold things, but I still can't drink plain water. The doctors all said its because the water is so thin that it's difficult to swallow and by adding the drink powder to it (crystal lite, etc) it thickens it, even if only slightly. I hope this eventually goes away, but I have a friend that is 4 yrs out who still can not tolerate water and drinks the majority of her beverages at room temp.
Also, no hard candies are allowed on the day of surgery. Not sure if they allow them after, I know they told me gum is a no-no permanently.

I drink only water and coffee, sometimes iced tea. I am getting all of my water intake in but I can't drink (guzzle) like I used to. I can take bigger "sips" but not several swallows at one time. sometimes at the gym, I'm not thinking and start drinking water and my tummy lets me know to STOP and slow down.
