Recovery time after surgery
I am so wondering about the recovery time after surgery. I read differing stories about how much time it took to recover. I need to plan for time off work and not sure what to expect by reading others accounts. I can arrange to be at a desk job for as long as I need to at work, so........can you all tell me what your experiences were like for getting back to work?
Re: Recovery time after surgery
I havent had my surgery yet, but I have a desk job and my surgeon has said 4 weeks out unless complications. I have seen on here people going back to work as early as one week but i am sure it wouldnt be advised unless it is a desk job. its really case by case before 4 weeks i would assume. good luck!
Re: Recovery time after surgery
I have a very active job. I am a tech, so I crawl on floors, under desks, etc. I took two weeks off of work, but could have gone back after the first week. I do recognize that I have a high tolerance for pain...but even with that I don't think more than 2 weeks would be needed for work.
Re: Recovery time after surgery
I did wait a month before sex. (I know that you didn't ask...but because you are planning things just thought I'd let you know that as well.)
Re: Recovery time after surgery
Hi, I'm an elementary principal (super active job). I had surgery on a Friday and returned to work the following Thursday, but I could have gone back on Wednesday. I took frequent breaks, sipped all day, and kept as much protein in me as possible for energy. I am not telling you that your experience will be the same, but mine was great! I was sick the first weekend from anesthesia, but once that passed, it has been a breeze. Good luck to you!
Re: Recovery time after surgery
Thanks, its nice to hear that others do so well. I hope i feel well enough to go back to work but i totally plan on taking the whole 4 weeks.. i need a vacation! so hoping i feel great and can enjoy life some! As far as the sex thing goes, glad you said something about that as I was wondering.
Re: Recovery time after surgery
I wish I had 4 weeks to take for vacation, that would be lovely!!!! I certainly hope you enjoy every minute! I will only be able to take no more than 10 days off work, but have arranged for desk duty totally. I work in dentistry so sitting chairside would not be a good thing! Thank goodness I have great employers. I am cheering you on! Your surgery date is getting so close, how exciting.
Re: Recovery time after surgery
Take your full time and enjoy your break. I want to be clear...this is definitely a life change. The surgery part is fairly easy, but getting used to your new diet can be tricky.
Re: Recovery time after surgery
I had my surgery in Mexico Dr. Rodriguez, and was back at work 8 days later, I am a veterinarian, but my staff helped me not have to lift anything and not have to get down on the floor. It was still hard, and I was exhausted when I got home. In 4 days I will be one month out. I felt really rough for about 7 days, then I started to feel better, and was pretty much back to normal at 3 weeks, I still do not have all my strength back and sometimes feel a bit shaky at work, but I think this is just my bodies way of adjusting to the enormous change that it is going through. For me, an admitted wimp, 2 weeks would have been perfect. But I am 54 years old. I am down 25 pounds and really feel great about my decision.
Re: Recovery time after surgery
I was told seven days so I am using my comp time and my surgery is on a Tuesday I am going back the following Tuesday but I have a desk job...
Re: Recovery time after surgery
I never had any pain after surgery, but I tired out easy. I started to really feel my energy come back at the end of the 3rd week. Now I am feeling great..like normal even. lol
Re: Recovery time after surgery
I took two weeks of vacation after my surgery. I do have a desk job, but it is fairly stressful. I wanted to be as well rested as possible before I returned to work. I probably could have gone back sooner.
I did get tired the first few days back at work. But, it gets better every day. I've been back at work almost a week now & feel really good.
Re: Recovery time after surgery
My doctor told me I could probably go back to work after one week. I decided to take 2 weeks off to be safe.
Re: Recovery time after surgery
I was back in the office 6 days after surgery. The full day was too much so I did 1/2 days the rest of that week. I have a desk job and avoided carrying large files around. My biggest complaint was sitting upright was a little uncomfortable and I tired rather quickly.
Re: Recovery time after surgery
This is really good info and thanks for posting the question cuz I have been wondering the same thing!
