Take like a half a teaspoon of some milk of magnesia. It will help. Just don't plan on going anywhere soon. Haha.
I had the same problem. Talk with your doctor or the office, they told me to take a tablespoon of Phillips milk of magnesia, I have taken it a couple of times. I felt so much better.
I would call your doctor. I had the opposite issue right out of surgery. My bum was so sore!
I had my first BM the day after I got home from the hospital.
anesthesia and pain killers do that to you. Drink apple juice. if its too sweet just dilute it. A small cup of coffee will do the trick too.
I had mine on day 4 postop. The issue I've had is that it's sometimes a bit painful. Anyone have that problem?
I ended up going to a colon/rectal doctor because I had such bad constipation. After the current problem was resolved, she told me to have a sip of Phillips milk of magnesia every night. Then as things improved try having a sip every couple of days. She did say that I waited too long before taking action. I've never had this problem before so I wasn't sure how bad bad was. Here goes more information than you probably want to know, I ended up with an anal fissure (a tear in the lining of the lower rectum). Very painful, don't let it go too long. Took six weeks to heal.
I have to say that I have never been to a funny doctor. I decided that you really have to have a good sense of humor to go into that specialty, she was delightful considering the problem.
I have become quite the connoisseur of Milk of Magnesia. When you accidently buy the plain flavor (tastes worse than chalk) add a few drops of Orange Mio and shake (then you don't have to throw the whole bottle out). My personal favorite is the Cherry flavor.
P.S. Cherry comes in the big bottle. Good luck to you.
I didn't have one for 11days! And then I was worried so I took a stool softener and that made me go. I'm still irregular. So I take a softener once a week. And I've incorporated fiber tablets in my diet and that has helped. Hoping I get in a regular cycle soon. My doctor said it's because of the protein drinks I drink every day.
Hey im soo glad u asked my surgery was on 1/14/14 too qnd I have had ZERO bowel movements since I came home. I was trying to wait and see what would happen in a few days and I figured its because were not eating anything yet. Anyway guess ill get some Milk of Mag too. Good luck fellow sleever! :)
I finally had one on day 7 after taking Milk of Magnesia. I have never been regular though. I took 2 Tbsp in the afternoon (nothing happening) so I took another 2 TBsp before bed. I woke up about 5:00 am with a good BM (although a little runny TMI). But it felt so good to be rid of the bloating and gas.
I haven't been regular since I had my surgery. I went over a week at a time with no BMs. I had horrible constipation to the point where I was almost in the hospital. It was so painful. I am still not regular. I have to take a laxative every weekend or I just won't go. Can't take them during the week because the results are too unpredictable for me to be at work or in traffic. I am hoping this will eventually work itself out. I certainly can't go the rest of my life being constipated like this.
Oh! I almost forgot to write this! My husband and I did some googling on what causes constipation. "High protein yogurt, specifically Greek yogurt" it said was notorious for causing constipation. I have felt better since I cut it out of my diet. Before I cut out the yogurt, I was about to go to the hospital because I was so desperate and in pain.
Hi Jess....believe it or not..that was an issue I had prior to my sleeve!..I was on medication for that...which helps....but now that I have finally had a bm.....now I can't stop going...and now this is day number 3 and I'm afraid that I may have an accident while I'm out!!...my body is all screwed up....I hope u eventually become regular.... if not I would go see the gastrointestinal dr.
I am actually going through a bit of the same situation. I am on Post-Op Day 5 and still no BM. I am going to take everyone's comments to heart and go buy me some MOM. Hopefully it will help. I haven't eaten anything solid just yet, so I was wondering if had eaten (drank) chicken soup broth, I would go for the higher fat content (higher than water). But no luck yet. I'll keep you posted.
