This was the first I heard of it too. I didn't have one.
I was actually wondering if I could wear a compression like garment, not immediately after surgury, but after about a month or so. I have a Kymara body shaper, which I LOVE, and wear under some of my clothing to smooth out my bumps and lumps.
i woke up frrom surgery with one on and kept it on most of the time I was in the hospital. I was a little nervous to be without it it, but I am doing ok.
Yes, we can wear them and some people end up wearing them the rest of their lives to deal w/the excess skin. One of the local support groups here swears by them. Seems like almost everyone wears them.
I guess it depends on your original size and the doctor. I did not have to wear a wrap or a girdle.
I was not told to wear one, I just happened to have one on hand so I used it after I developed terrible muscle pain in my ribs. It did really help. I would say it is completely a personal choice.
I woke up with an abdominal wrap on after surgery. I was told to wear it for a couple weeks to help support my stomach muscles. I've been wearing it for three months. I swear that it has helped the integrity of my stomach muscles. I have very little loose skin. I also wear it for the added support it gives me. I have been thinking about switching over to a compression tank top as an alternative.
I think it's wise for the first week or two because it supports you if you sneeze or cough. After that, it's personal preference.
When you have lipo, a tummy tuck, or hernia surgery, most docs put you into one, from what I have read. So, I bought one to wear since I am having my hiatal hernia repaired at the same time. I also have compression tanks to wear, if the wrap that I bought feels too tight.
I was never told to wear one, but I often do now (not right after surgery) to tighten up the saggy skin.
I had one after surgery and wore it when I was getting up or down and thankfully when I sneezed or coughed!! I was fine after about a week and a half but I would have been lost without it at first :-)
I was given one at the hospital. I was told to wear it only when walking to support my stomach. My doctor said not to wear it when sitting or laying as it can restrict your breathing. I wore if for about a week after surgery. I found it really helpful when my stomach was sore, but now I find it annoying and itchy.
Didn't have one but thinking i need some Spanx soon. LOL
Dr Almanza did the hernia too? How did you find out before?
Post sleeve, post 2 c-section I was in a binder for support. I wore it for 3-4 weeks after each surgery and I do feel it helped decrease pain, and helped my stomach heal better. But you have to keep it snug but not tight, too tight can decrease blood flow to your bowels and stomach. If is supports you, it's a great thing.
