OK Men...compression garments?
Hitting one year soon, ecstatic with weight loss, growing more concerned by the pound though with all the excess skin.... Anyone of you boys try a waist or abdominal compression garment or "belt"?
Waited forever to feel and look this good, but alas... any thoughts of dating remind me that my torso is starting to look like a sharpei puppy.... Ladies love puppies but not the good kind of lovin'.... ;)
Definitely need abdominoplasty tummy tuck in 12 to 24 months, but till then I'm wondering what I can do to help....
Re: OK Men...compression garments?
Hi John, Ever hear ladies talking about Spanx brand compression garmets? They are pretty comfortable and don't look so... well... ummm... orthopedic. I was in a local upper end department store recently and I saw that they make. Compression undershirts and underpants for guys! They look like regular stuff, too. Check it out. I found the website for you. Spanx for Men | Man Spanx | Men's Body Shapers
Best wishes, Romeo! You are looking good :-)
Re: OK Men...compression garments?
John,
Were you exercizing lots and working out while the weight was coming off?
Just curious on if a guy works out lots if that helps to reduce the excess skin?

I did modified push ups daily to help with chest and arms which are good.... its my abdominal area... even my thighs are muscular and fine.
I was diagnosed 8 weeks post sleeve with a rare genetic spinal disorder that severely limits my exercise.... :(

Re: OK Men...compression garments?
Sorry to hear of your spinal problems...I am sure the weightloss helps immensely.
Consider some plastic surgery perhaps?
Well take care

John did you know you could donate your excess skin to burn victims?

SS you never cease to amaze and impress me.... I did not know that. I'm sure I'll need surgery tummy tuck next year, and just knowing that makes me feel so much better about it.... thank you sincerely.

Re: OK Men...compression garments?
If I ever get brave enough to do the right thing, I'll post pictures and then you'll see what my specific concerns are...I would NEVER consider "exposing" myself that way, I mean I've worn a t-shirt even while swimming since I was like 4 or 5 years old - originally equally for sunburn protection... I've never been even shirtless in public, but I understand the caring and supportive relationship we all share here, and I'm beginning to appreciate the importance of shared experience and knowledge. Been toying with the benefit of posting some pictures so people can actually see the effects of such massive weight loss on the skin, and to help break down further some more barriers and walls in discussing the highly personal problems we all face and finding best solutions for us as well as future WLS patients.
Call me crazy, but I can't help but think if I was happily married it wouldn't matter... but as it is, I can't help but be modest knowing I'm on the verge of being single and so anxious to start "dating" and feeling vulnerable that way.... especially after a recent and fairly significant failed attempt at a burgeoning relationship...
It also amplifies the problem when you are so happy with the overall visual change of your body, and so distressed by specific trouble spots.... doesn't help to be wearing a "summer sweater" either... lol ;)

Gosh your a strong man.
I can't believe how amazing you look and can certainly appreciate your apprehension for the dating scene.
Just dating post divorce is nerve wracking enough, but look at it this way. Once you have gone out with someone a couple of times, tell them you have had weight loss surgery. You need to feel comfortable and positive about yourself and I can see you already have that by the determination of your successful weight loss. At least weight loss gives us more confidence and self esteem.
You sound like such a nice balanced genuine man, I am sure you are a charmer. Go for it!!!!
Oh and can't wait to see the pics!
