smoothie king
When I'm out and about I get a gladiator smoothie from Smoothie king. Its low carb and has 40-45 grms of protein in the small size. if it increases in the bigger sizes it doesn't say. I may be the last one on earth to know this but I wanted to share anyway. Today I realized I could have a protein enhancement added to it. Its 45 grms of protein. That's possibly 90 grms of protein in a drink that takes me half the night to drink. It fills me up. I'm totally stoked about this since I struggle to get in my protein. If I missed the memo just don't tell me! ;)

Re: smoothie king
Oh, they give you a choice of the type of protein you can add, soy, egg, whey gladiator which is the isolate and something else I can't remember. I choose gladiator.

Re: smoothie king
Where do you get these smoothie kings? They sound ideal.

Re: smoothie king
We don't have smoothie king here:( There is a Tropical Smoothie chain and I love their smoothies but even with splenda they're full of sugar. I've got to go look their menu up again because I'd LOVE to be able to buy a fresh one on the way to work each day:)

Re: smoothie king
Check it out, Smoothie King only has a few low carb options but you can add any fruit u want to it and any flavor protein powder. It really is ideal, I hope I don't burn out on them too soon.

Re: smoothie king
Thanks for the info Dana. I looked up the nutritionals on our smoothie place and I can't have em. Crap. Lowest grams of sugar were in the 30s:( I'm going to check another place to be sure:)

Re: smoothie king
I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but supposedly your body can only absorb about 25-30 grams of protein at once, or so I've been told by my nutritionist before.

Re: smoothie king
its okay linda I want to know if its not what I think it is , do u think it helps that it takes me most of the day to drink it? I'm working on 7 hours now!
Happy me, yeah that's too many carbs, this one has 7, it doesn't taste as wonderful as their carribean way but its okay.

Re: smoothie king
Linda, is that in a day or a meal?
-
Re: smoothie king
It probably does help that it takes all day. That was in a meal at one time, I was told. I'm not a nutritionist, just saying what I've been told in the past.

Re: smoothie king
I heard the same thing... I aim for 15g every 2-3 hrs just to spread it out some. But I look for concentrated stuff that is small and fast absorbing... Liquacel (1 oz=15g and is the stuff they would put in a feeding tube), the protein jello candy (15g in 1 oz i think), etc. I dont go for anything with more than 15 or 16 for the serving i plan to eat - someone told me it was just expensive pee :) But if something has 45g and you break it up into 3 servings over the day, that would be the same thing I think. Just dont chug it all at once!

Re: smoothie king
Hey Judy, I wanted to ask you what you thought of Dr. Kelly and how are you doing after a month? Your weight is about the same as mine, I to am having the sleeve surgery. How has the month been for you? any problems? I would love to know how the dr. hospital and staff were in Mexico? wre you happy with everything? is there anything that you can tell me before hand? I am scheduled for Aug. 9th . thank you for any suggestions or comments. Pat

Re: smoothie king
Dr Kelly was awesome! You get plenty of time in the hospital where its very quiet, and everyone is very attentive. Dr. Kelly will spend all the time you want with you - before and after surgery. He comes to visit you in the hotel a few times too (he stayed 2 hours just chatting with us!). His little boy is adorable too and we saw him a few times. No real issues with language - the driver speaks english and some of the staff do, so other than signing some forms i couldnt read I had no issues with that :) Be sure to request all the test results to take back with you - they will just hand over xrays and all. Definitely pay the extra $44 for hotel lucerna - its beautiful and well worth it. Check out your cell phone plan in advance - I had verizon and immediately got texts about additional charges so I turned off my phone... but then the driver couldnt reach me to arrange transport back! Worked out fine though :) Bring at least 2 boxes of GasX -cant find them there. A cab to walmart is $5. Yeah - I spent 5 days in Tijuana and I went to the hospital, the laundromat, and walmart! Um... it was really a vacation for me. I had no real issues, was up and walking a few hours after surgery, showered every day on my own (!). There were definitely uncomfortable moments (gas pains in my shoulder really bad sometimes), but Dr Kelly and the hospital and all were truly wonderful. Better than any Dr or hospital i have EVER been to in the US! Feel free to ask more - happy to talk on the phone too sometime if you want to. I took some pics too, havent posted them anywhere. There is a bullfighting ring right across the street from the hospital. And you can do the google street view of the Lucerna hotel if you want a way to make it look familiar. Maybe the hospital too - didnt try that.

Re: smoothie king
hi dana - i am almost 7 weeks post op and a neighbor of yours. i live in nola. believe it or not, i went to high school w/ur doc. i have been drinking gladiator smoothie kings for the past 4 weeks "everyday" and i'm not tired of them yet. i know i'm getting a great dose of protein and it also sometimes take me all day to drink it. this is not a gulp drink. i tried many other protein drinks and i just couldn't stomach them.
the other day i sauteed some onions, creole tomato's and okra. something a southern girl can relate too. it was delicious, loaded w/nutrition and vitamins.
thanks for your chicken recipe.
