Is my stomach stretched out?
Okay, I am just wondering about how much everyone can drink or eat at one time... I have a hard time eating/drinking slow, and I know it stretches you out, its just hard for me, so I want to compare what others can fit at one time in their pouch..
I just drank all at once, a little can of tomato juice, (well almost the whole thing, it was 5.5 ounces) so id say i drank 5 ounces at once, and wasn't overly stuffed, just started to feel full barely..
so is that way more then all you far out sleevers? or can you fit about that much at one time in your pouch,..?
Re: Is my stomach stretched out?
Eh, I can drink liquids pretty quickly, and have been able to ever since about 4-5 weeks out from surgery. For example, I can down a 16 oz bottle of liquid on an empty stomach in about 25-30 minutes if I want to, and it's not painful, nor am I chugging.
As someone else pointed out to me a while ago on here, it would take a pretty good amount of time of constant, painful overeating to really stretch your pouch out. Liquids and other soft things you may be able to find you can fit more of in your pouch, and faster too, but as long as you're listening to your body and breathing in between swallows, I think you'll be OK. If you're really worried, just really try to make it a habit of breathing in between swallows. I know it's hard, but if you make a conscious effort to do that, it will help slow you down some :)

Hi Tori,
I can drink a 20 oz. Vitamin Water in about 30-40 minutes. Now solids, that something different. I can comfortably eat around 4 oz. of protein (like chicken, tuna, etc.) and then my stomach sends me a message to stop. Yogurt is around 6 oz. I don't think your stomach is stretched out ~ it's just healing after surgery and now it can accommodate more.
Glad you're doing better :)

Okay thanks!
when you eat 4 ounces of food, are you waiting minutes between bites? Or just eating like you used you with out waiting so long between bites?
Re: Is my stomach stretched out?
Depending on the food, I can eat 6-8 oz of soft or wet food. Dry foods or meat about 1/2 that amount. I can drink just about the same as before surgery.

I put my fork down between every bite and take a breath after I swallow it before picking it back up again. It all takes less than a minute, but doing that really helped me get in tune to feel how quickly I was or wasn't filling up.
Re: Is my stomach stretched out?
I can drink more quickly than I used to, however; I do try to make an effort to slow down. I can't eat too fast, but I don't have to chew something 100 times like I used to do in the beginning. It gets easier as you get used to your body and what it can/can't do for you. Continued success!!
Re: Is my stomach stretched out?
I asked my surgeon about this, as sometimes I can get down a ton more than normal (I was afraid I had stretched mine out as well).
He said there is something called the duodonal opening. It is the junction between the bottom of your new sleeve and the next stop for food (the duodenum) after it leaves your stomach. It opens, closes and/or is in various states of either one at any given time.
So, at anytime it may be closed, filling you up quicker, or open, making it easy for nutrition (especially fluids) to pass through quicker.
Re: Is my stomach stretched out?
I'm so glad you asked this. I was on the phone with the nurse at my surgeon's ofc. this morning b/c I thought maybe I was doing it wrong by being able to take pretty decent, normal sized swallows just a week out. They said I was doing fine, that it was a good thing. I was worried b/c the liquids can go down with a relatively big swig - not like before surgery, but definitely bigger than a sip.
Re: Is my stomach stretched out?
See, I threw up blood, and went to the hospital, and they said it was ulcers, they said you get them from eating too much or drinking too much too fast and not spacing out the bites, or not taking small sips of water,.. the stomach stretches, and shrinks and rubs the staple line causing ulcers, they told me I am not supposed to take more then an ounce of water every 20 minutes.. but I don't feel full from drinking about 5 ounces at a time.. and I was told the your stomach is 150CC after, which would end up being about 5 ounces, so I still don't get why my people are so strict about it.. and if everyone else can do what I am doing which it seems so, then I guess I am doing it right,.
Re: Is my stomach stretched out?
I was starting to get concerned myself as I am able to take in more food and fluids now than before. Its nice to hear that I probably havent stretched out my new stomach...however its a bit unnearving that food goes down much easier and its seems that since it does that i am eating mindless and not taking smaller bites and resting between bites. I so don't want to go back to shoveling food in then go...oh s**t i to shouldn't have...fluids especially iced tea and gatorade go down very easy and seems to take in quite a bit more. I have hit another stall but this time it has lasted longer and is frustrating...my body is changing but I feel heavier than I have in a while - also I am now having more solid BM's vs having very loose stools since my surgery. Could this be why I feel "heavier"??
