Discussion of Gastric Sleeve Plication
Please use this thread (or feel free to start a new one) to discuss the gastric sleeve plication surgery. This surgery is similar to the traditional gastric sleeve in that the stomach is reduced to a sleeve shaped tube. The main difference being the gastric sleeve removes a portion of the stomach whereas the sleeve plication uses stitches to fold the stomach over itself and squeeze it into a sleeve shape, making it hold less volume but leaving the tissue there intact.

Re: Discussion of Gastric Sleeve Plication
I had a plication surgery on July 29, 2011, I went to Dr> Oritz at the Obesity Control Centre in TJ Mexico.
OVERALL - It was a good experience, They put me up at the Mariott the meals (chicken broth & popcycles) were complimentary and very good. The hotel spectacular, I went down on the 28th returned home on the 31st spent the nite of the proceedure at the clinic. Nurses were in attendance 24hrs. However, Dr. Ortiz I did not meet and I did not apreciate that at all actually I was pretty pissed about it. I was the 1st surgery of the day and the other 2 patients got a 1 on 1 with him prior to surgery. He should have been there when I was in recovery. but the other doctor Dr. Martinez was excellent. The nurse was not she seemed grumpy and the IV site is still VERY sensative and today is Aug 11th (I felt she was rough)
The transportation was taken care of the hotel was taken care of and I traveled from Northern Canada so even two days after surgery I was doing well. I would recommend plication as the research I did showed it to be the least invasive, fastest recovery time and NO fills - (lap band fills go on for 4 years and you pay for them even in Canada) I am back at work came back on the 8th so you can see i am fairing well and by the way they gave me medicine for pain and gas but I did not need any of it. I beleive that was not the case for one of the ladies who had a surgery on the same day as me she seemed to be in some pain although I have a suspusion she ate the nite before and she was not supposed to. The key to the surgical sucess is FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN TO YOU - EVEN AFTER SURGERY - drink as much water or juice as you can to keep up both blood sugar and hydration. The surgery was $7,500 USD hotel & transportation included I paid $132.00 for medication after surgery I am already down 16 lbs but I have to admit I do feel hungry so we'll see I guess.
Re: Discussion of Gastric Sleeve Plication
Isn't that the difference between the 2 surgeries? They do not actually remove the unused portion of the stomach, so the hormones are still being produced in full force, even though your new tummy can't hold as much.
Re: Discussion of Gastric Sleeve Plication
I do not know about the hormone part of it but a sleeve removes part of your stomach yes, my sister had one and she had a drainage tube and experienced a LOT of gas bloating had to use a lot of antacids, I did not pre & post operative diets are similar. But I have several small incision points the largest one about 1" no drainage tube and unlike the band no fills for the next 4 years - that's ther problem with the band and a lot of my research came up with the same complaint over and over about the food they could no longer tolerate - I am not experiencing that and neither did my sister. But I went by myself and found travel did not even phase me only 2 days after surgery.:D
Re: Discussion of Gastric Sleeve Plication
My fear is the stitches popping out and the stomach being big again.
Re: Discussion of Gastric Sleeve Plication
The hormone that they remove plays a huge part of not craving food 24/7 like I used to. I absolutely love that part and I'm sure that's what keeps me on track (most the time). I've never even heard of this procedure until now, but it seems to me if the stomach is still in tact, that you would still have the same cravings.
Re: Discussion of Gastric Sleeve Plication
That's what I was thinking... I will stick with the sleeve, tyvm :)
Re: Discussion of Gastric Sleeve Plication
I came on this forum to try to help people with my own experience. I see now that was useless the two of you are skinny anyway and really have no business here as it is clear you are only here to moc and ridicule. The hormone thing is. B.S. My sister has a sleeve and no hormone changes. not to mention why would you screw with your hormones anyway that's just stupid. Stitches come out of gastric sleeves too you have to be careful until you are healed as with any surgical proceedure. Your comments are offensive. Because you some lay person hasn't heard of something it can't be good how arrogant you are. Anyone truly interested in weight loss surgery needs to get answers from your surgeon. Not people on a web chatt. I only wanted to share an experience and what a person can do in after care the would ease the routine discomfort of surgery. I hate that I put myself out there for you to crap all over. Drop dead
Re: Discussion of Gastric Sleeve Plication
Wow.... I can assure you that NO ONE on this forum was mocking or ridiculing you. I am so sorry if you saw it that way. I wish you every success with your surgery!
Re: Discussion of Gastric Sleeve Plication
I had a plication and it went terribly wrong I almost died! I was released from the hospital and everything was fine until I got home. Started vomiting even my saliva, thought it normal, because I was given some medicine in case of vomit. In the morning I was vomiting blood, so I went to the hospital and into the or. After 5 hours I came out to ICU and spent a few days there. They had to perform the gastric sleeve, as the part of my stomach that was stapled died. They had to cut more than half of my stomach. Now I'm ok and that was only a terrible nightmare.
So far I'm doing well with the diet, except that I frequently get diarrhea. I've lost about 27 lb. and I'm feeling good. Just a little concerned about what can I eat that won't upset my stomach.
Re: Discussion of Gastric Sleeve Plication
First of all I'm 78lbs over weight and not skinny. I have the right to my opinion as do you. Don't tell me where I have business being or not. You are rude and obviously very emotional!
