How long does the nausea last?
My husband was sleeved on 10-19-12. He lost 20 pounds pre-op and since surgery now has lost a total of 70 pounds. It's no wonder though because he can barely eat. We're told this is normal, but wondering just how long the nausea feeling last? Doesn't matter what he eats. He ate a couple bites of scrambled eggs this morning and a couple sips of chicken broth tonight. He's taking pills for the nausea, but doesn't want to live on those. He did have a large hernia repair at the same time. He also had to have another surgery last Friday because the incision from the surgery came open. (His surgery was open.) So I know he's got a lot going on, but still wanted to see if any other recent sleevers are going through this. I just feel so bad for him and wish there was something I could do.

So sorry he is having such a rough time. That is a long time for the nausea to last. How does he do with protein shakes and yogurts?
Re: How long does the nausea last?
Wow yes thats a long time to be feeling so nauseated ;( I'm almost 4 weeks out and the only time I get nauseated is when I try tuna fish for some reason....
Re: How long does the nausea last?
I rarely get nauseated...the only time i did is when i actually threw up...chewing my multi-vitamin...nasty things...I was scared i was 2 weeks out at that time and i thought i was going to pull something...but no problems but i did however change up my multi vitamins :)
Re: How long does the nausea last?
My surgery was a few days before his and also had a hernia repair. The only time I get nauseous and vomit if I eat something my sleeve does not like. One of the things that make me nauseous is eggs, my dietition said eggs are one of the hardest things to digest, maybe he should go egg free for a while.
Re: How long does the nausea last?
DebbieNTexas, something else might be going on. Has he tried sipping Ginger Tea???? When my tummy is unhappy that settles it, warms me up, and the smell makes me feel happy. It is my substitute for ginger ale, my kids also use it when they have upset stomachs. Encourage your husband to get this check out -- insist that you go to the doctor with him, he needs an advocate!
Re: How long does the nausea last?
Thank you all so much for responding! He's had a dislike of protein shakes and yogurts since the pre-op days. He won't drink or eat either anymore. I'm thinking now to stay away from eggs. I will try to get him to drink the Ginger Tea, but he's pretty stubborn. I think a lot of this is a depression to eat the way he used to eat. Sometimes "talking" makes him feel sick, but if someone comes over and talks about something totally different than the surgery, he's ok. He didn't get the preparation for how everything would change and he didn't realize how mental a lot of this is. I'm hoping once the stitches and the drain is gone he will feel more human and then he can feel like he can finally move on with his life. Just my thoughts. I really appreciate your input, it's gives me ideas on different ways to help. :)
Re: How long does the nausea last?
Maybe try lowfat milk also Unjury ckn soup is good and has a lot of protein
Re: How long does the nausea last?
Is he taking a PPI? Like Nexium or Prevacid? I was so sick for 2 months until I got off of these! I now take Pepcid twice a day instead and feel 100%!
Re: How long does the nausea last?
I did buy the sample packet from Unjury. I'll look for the chicken soup. He does take the generic Prilosec every night. I would have thought that would have helped too.
Re: How long does the nausea last?
I have been so nauseated too! The only two things that don't make me sick is low-fat low cal vanilla yogurt, and V8 Splash.

Read up on PPI side effects. I ended up with severe dehydration and, believe it or not, vertigo. It's a nasty drug.
