Bummed out
Yesterday I was scheduled to be sleeved. However will attempting to access my stomach the surgeon could not do so because of the large amount of scar tissue in my body from previous surgey. So he aborted the operation. I left the operating room with five incisions on my belly but no sleeve. He felt it would be to risky to perform the surgery with an open incision. So no sleeve for me. When I think about the time that it took to get to this point as well as the money spent I am extremely disappointed .
So best wishes to all who have had the surgery or who have plans to be sleeve.
BTW the scar tissue was not revealed in my ct of the pelvis and abdomen or the ultra sounds

Re: Bummed out
That is terrible news. Sorry to hear this has happened to you. I would encourage you to get a second opinion though... you never know, they may be other options.

Re: Bummed out
That is such a bummer and I am truly sorry for all that you have gone through. Can you discuss another option with him or try looking for a doctor who can do it?

Re: Bummed out
I am so so so sorry. I would get a second opionion on that. I have alto of scar tissue and there was no problem. What kind of scar tissue do you have. I had a c-section and a tummy tuck in my past history.

Re: Bummed out
I was told by my dr they may have to do full open because of scar tissue, was fully prepared for it. I was not in the best of health either but she did stil do the surgery ....so I would urge you to get a second opinion ...so sorry this happened to you !

Better that the surgeon doesn't proceed if it isn't safe.

Re: Bummed out
My surgeon tried accessing from various part of my body. Without success . The surgeon and his partner are highly esteem for their bariatric program and have thought others how to perform these procedures. He was highly disappointed that he could not sleeve me and said my organs are surrounded by the scar tissue and when he attempted to inflate my stomach, the gas remained in the top portion of my abdomen. An open incision was something I would never consider, nor would he perform the surgery in this way on me because the risk out weighed the potential benefits. None of the other surgery options could be performed also. He and his entire staff were disappointed as well because they know how hard I work at gathering the necessary info needed over the past five months. He did offer to put me in a medically supervised weight lost program using optifast supplements which I am considering.
Before the surgery I prayed that god would direct the hands of the surgery so it probably a blessing that the surgery was not performed.
Iwill continue to follow the program of dieting and exercising that I was involved in prior to surgery, and hope for the best
Thanks for your well wishes and encouraging words of comfort.

Re: Bummed out
I used optifast for my pre-op diet. the chicken soups are pretty good. i cheated a little bit too as I used chicken broth as the base instead of water. made them tastier. and the chocolate shakes are good too. And I lost 14 pounds in 14 days. So it was pretty effective.
