Weight loss and belly fat???
So immediately after surgery, I lost 8" in my waist in the first few weeks...and that's IT. The rest of the weight loss has been overall, heavy in my face. I'm wondering if that's because I was in ketosis the first few weeks then added in healthy carbs.
I'm out of porportion. My waist has stayed the same size and I am losing weight around it, making me look a little odd. Not to be gross (sorry if I can't say it here, where can I say it?) but I have a fat lower belly that isn't really large anymore just sort of bulky and a fatty area right below my belly that is sort of the pubic area. It makes me look odd in shorts or jeans. I'm wondering if this is normal. I'm also wondering if I went back to ketosis if my waist and this other belly/pubic area would shrink more. I'm curious about the skin issue. Is this why tummy tucks are the first plastics that people who have lost a lot of weight want?
Re: Weight loss and belly fat???
I have the lower belly thing going on too....hate it!! I'm definately going to need a tummy tuck. I've lost 8 inches in my waist, but the skin on my lower tummy won't go back to where it belongs. I've had 2 big babies and no matter what I do, I'm resigned to the fact that I will need surgery. If I could lose that area, I probably would lose another size or two.
Re: Weight loss and belly fat???
That's me too! My daughter (#3 kid) was breech so she never dropped and I carried her wayyyyy out front. That really stretched my lower belly.
Re: Weight loss and belly fat???
I was going to blog about almost the same thing this morning... Im only about six weeks out and 30 pounds down and I have lost most of it in my upper body. Its to the point where my shirts are huge up top and then just fit around my lower abdomen. I feel like I need smaller shirts up top and have already had to get smaller bras, but no change really down below. I mean I am happy and thankful that im losing and that things are changing, but its very akward. I feel like I now have spare tire syndrome. No offense to you ladies, but I am glad to hear that it isnt just me this is happening to. Grrr!
Re: Weight loss and belly fat???
I saw a documentary on TV about plastic surgery and liposuction. One younger gal had lost a lot of weight but her pubic mound didn't lose weight and puffed out in a bathing suit and shorts etc to the point it almost looked like male parts. She had liposuction just to that area alone and you could really tell a difference there. Her clothes fit a lot nicer.
Re: Weight loss and belly fat???
Oh God is this what I have to look forward too? I am 6 weeks out I am still losing my tummy. But I do have an apron still. I am still only eating proteins.
Re: Weight loss and belly fat???
You still have an apron on?
Re: Weight loss and belly fat???
This is a good reason for tummy tucks but at my age I won't bother!
Re: Weight loss and belly fat???
I'm mushy all over. When I stand I'm roll free but when I sit I roll out all over my waist band.
Back to the gym for me. I'm going to do as much toning as possible. My doctor wants me to wait a year from surgery to even consider any plastics.
Re: Weight loss and belly fat???
I am glad someone asked this. I am in the same situation. I wear a size 2 to 8 depending on how a garment is made. I weight 135. I have not lost a single pound in more than six months. It is like I just stopped losing once I hit 135. I feel great and am happy with my weight loss, but I have huge issues with my stomach. I have a poochy, saggy belly and if I didn't have that, I would probably wear a smaller size pants, maybe even two or three sizes smaller. I am very self conscious about it too. I am considering a tummy tuck but that is not something that I can afford right now! LOL...Maybe next year! I am glad to hear that I am not the only one with this problem. I lost all over my frame in proportion, but my stomach stuck with me!! It is much smaller than when I started out, but it is still too big for the size I am now. I have tried all kinds of exercises and nothing seems to work! What to do?? Any suggestions?
Re: Weight loss and belly fat???
I have that belly thing going on. First place to gain, last place to loose. It is worst now that I am in my 40s. I think tummy tuck is needed. I won't get one until my weight stabalize for a good six months.
Re: Weight loss and belly fat???
Unfortunately where/how we lose is really dependent on our shape and genes. My mother is an "apple" so she carries weight around her middle like crazy. I am more hourglass, so have been blessed with rather even weight loss. I have a good friend who is an obvious "pear" who can't lose weight around her hips and thighs to save her life.
Spot reduction (losing weight in a particular area) is unfortunately not possible without surgery, but burning calories (by cardio or by building more muscle) can help reduce overall fat stores, thus affecting trouble areas by default.
8" off of your waist is HUGE! Congratulations!! I wish I could say that!
Re: Weight loss and belly fat???
Ladies I'm feeling you.... I've lost enough weight to make me thrilled, but not enough to make we want to thrill yet.... ;)
This may be one of the few places you ladies have the advantage....I remember reading that compression shorts, especially those made to increase heat in the problem areas, help a great deal in "encouraging" fat and fluid to leave the compressed areas...
Sadly, I have not tried since for us guys, "compression" is not a welcomed experience for certain anatomical assets.....Feel free to try it out and report back...Actually Groupon recently had a special on such a pair of shorts (they can be worn under regular clothing)....

Oh and the kids today apparently refer to that as our FUPA.....google and you tube it for a laugh/cry...;p
