Healthy Sugar Alternatives
Hi Everyone,
There has been quite a few threads lately about sugar substitutes and sugar alternatives. Today I found this article on yahoo. I have been using the agave, but am going to try all of these others in moderation so I can eliminate all of the chemicals.

Re: Healthy Sugar Alternatives
Those are all still sugars. Just different kinds of sugars.
Aspartame (Nutri-Sweet), sucralose (Splenda) and stevia (Truvia) have all been found to be extremely safe sweeteners that are not sugar.
Aspartame has a lot of nut jobs making up bad stuff about it, but it is all made up stuff. Unless one has phenylketonuria (PKU), which is very rare, aspartame is very safe with over 50 years of research behind it. You might have heard that it breaks down to formaldehyde and this is what makes it dangerous. It does break down to formaldehyde as an intermediate stage in its digestion -- as does the vast majority of foods that we eat. It is completely normal and the body knows how to handle it by breaking down the formaldehyde further.
As a side note, and you probably know this already, we are to avoid sugar alcohols as much as possible because they cause bloating & diarrhea. These are items like sorbitol & xylitol (in the ingredients list, if the name ends with "-ol", it is probably a sugar alcohol).
