I am trying to see if these supplements are helpful. Also if you take them what brand and dosage. I am 59 and several people have recommended these, but they aren't sleevers?

I use Natrol Biotin from Walmart. It's 10,000 mcg. Very high dosage.
I was told by my doctor to stop taking both of those for the time being.
I told my hair stylist about my surgery because of the potential hair loss and she said to take biotin. I've already been taking it because I'm trying to recover from an ill-chosen haircut that doesn't suit me! http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...mbarrassed.gif http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...mages/wink.gif
As for CoQ10, I found this article on WebMd that might be helpful: CoQ10 |Coenzyme Q10 | Uses, Side Effects, Safety, and Claims of CoQ10
Not sure I am seeing the benefits of it for us as WLS patients, but there is very likely someone else far more knowledgeable about this supplement than I and hopefully they'll chime in! :)
Interesting, did he say why?
I am taking 10,000 mcg of biotin!!! Most all sleevers take biotin!! And I am 50 years old!!
I have taken biotin from the beginning and can't see any benefits as far as hair loss goes. I have also found no studies saying it's benefical. I still take it and I am in the middle of this side effect of WLS surgery. Perhaps I'm not losing as much as I would without it, but I definitely am shedding alot daily. Maybe someone can point us toward a study. I also have 'heard' zinc helps. Where did you hear CoQ10 helps? I'm 59 also and have a ton of hair, so it's not that it's ultimately a big problem....it's just really irritating to pick hair off myself constantly. : p
I am taking biotin and I agree I don't see any different. I am still shedding. My nutritionist told me that it doesn't really help, but I just take it....
I have been told to take B12 for the hair loss
The CO Q10 was regarding other healt conditions not hair loss I was just wondering if it was contraindicated. I did find an interesting article about hair loss on a RNY site, but I think it reates to sleevers as well. Check it out.
Hair Loss After Gastric Bypass: Tips For Losing Less And Regrowing More Faster
I started freeking out about 3 months ago when a little hair started coming out. now it comes out in hand fulls. I take boiten daily, my hubby bought me fall fight conditioner. I get my 60-80 grams of protein daily but it still coming out. Im just guessing its the price I pay to be healthily. Im also having really dry skin. I use lotion twice daily. and wrinkles...dont get me started...lol I joke I was prettier when I was so heavy, my skin tight and soft lots of hair, but I know deep in my heart this is the better road for me. Now I can run and play with my kids and animals without running out of breath and having to rest. fair trade I say!
Biotin isn't helping my hair one bit, but I have some very long strong natural fingernails.
I thought I was losing hair about 6 weeks out but I started taking Biotin and have had virtually no hair loss at all. Maybe two or three strands a day? I'm thinking it's not the Biotin as much as getting 90 to 100 grams of protein each and every day. That seems to be the key. I am still taking it because I bought a super big bottle and hate to waste money and it's not going to hurt me anyway. That said, I am just reaching the 4 month mark in a couple of weeks and so I might see hair loss then. I guess it will be the price we pay.
Hope you don't have anymore hair loss! I am going to try my best to get my protein up I usually get between 60-70. I will have to go over my surgeons recommended calories 400-600 I usually go over about 50 calories. Maybe bumping my calories might help me get out of the slow crawl I've been in recently!
Boy I hear you about thr dry skin and wrinkles. I know for certain that I am going to have to go to a surgeon. ( when my ship comes in)!
