Alice's journey
I am 2 and half months out and have the worst heartburn now to the point it feels like i have an ulcer. I got a local doctor to prescribe carafate for me but i dont know how long it take to heal. I cant take my rheumatoid meds because my stomach is killing me. I wish i had spent the money on a 4 week inhouse weight loss clinic instead of wls right now. The surgeon knew my meds and my comorbid conditions. I am in such pain from my rheumatoid autoimmune disease that I cant bear it.

Re: Alice's journey
Alexis, I hope you get some relief from the carafate soon and that, perhaps, you can get some top-notch medical advice and treatment from a doctor who specializes in stomach disorders like the ones you're suffering from.

Re: Alice's journey
Do you have a rheumatologist? If you do then perhaps it's time for an appointment. As you know most anti-inflamatories are hard on the stomach and for this reason WLS patients are not supposed to take them. There may be an alternative that your rheumatologist can help you with. Maybe something you can inject that will take your stomach right out of the equation? It's possible an alternative exists that a specialist would be able to prescribe or recommend. I have osteo-arthritis and at first, right after the surgery, I had a lot more joint pain to deal with but now that I have lost a lot of weight this has really eased up for me. I know that rheumatoid arthritis is different but, like I said, a rheumatoid specialist should be able to help you out with appropriate suggestions and information.

Re: Alice's journey
Are your meds contributing to the heartburn? Maybe different meds might help?
Get you surgeon, PCP and rheumatologist working together to make a plan for you.
Good luck.
