Does anyone know if cream of wheat is ok to eat 11 weeks out of gastric sleeve surgery?
Yes, just MAKE it loose.
I was told I could eat it 2 weeks after. I'm going into m 5th week and I haven't tried it yet.
What have you been eating for 11 weeks?
Yes it is definitely ok at 11 weeks. I was wondering how long it would keep you full? I haven't had it, but I sure would like to! :)
At 11 weeks, I could eat anything I wanted. Just be careful to count those carbs. I put vanilla protein powder in my oatmeal to ramp up the protein in the morning...you might try the same in your cream of wheat.
I eat 1/4 c. of cream of wheat OR the same amount of oatmeal for breakfast occasionally. I'm almost 2 mo out and it doesn't bother me at all. It keeps me full and feels good on a cold morning. I count my carbs, so I only have it a couple times/week. At 11 weeks, you should be able to eat about anything you want.
Immediately post-op, cream of wheat was one of the things on my acceptable foods list that my surgeon gave me. Unfortunately, that and grits always felt like they got stuck in my throat and sat like a lump of pasty lead in my stomach, so I gave up on trying to eat them. At 11 weeks out though, you should be more than able to eat it (as long as it doesn't bug you).
Always go with what your doctor says, but at 8 weeks out, ALL food restrictions were lifted from me, and I was told to eat anything I wanted -- as long as it didn't upset my stomach, it was fine.
I ate Cream of Wheat when I was 2 weeks out. I just made sure it was a little thinner than normal. I am 6 weeks out now and no longer have to thin it out.
I eat cream of wheat every morning, i instant package with 1/2 cup water and 1/4 cup soy milk an hour after i have my banana
Wow, everyone gets such different instructions! I was recommended Cream of Wheat (very watered down) when I first started back on foods post-surgery, but warned not to continue to eat it or other "simple carbs" after I was able to eat what I was supposed to again. I was very strictly told to eat in this order (1) protein (2) dairy (3) fruits & vegs (4) carbs (if I had any room left, which I never do.)
Anyway, Cream of Wheat is tasty but not great nutritionally. I would save it for a special occasion or when your tummy isn't letting you eat healthier foods for whatever reason.
Cream of wheat literally saved my life! If you are worried about it being carb and not protein you can add protein powder. Also sweetin it with artificial sweetner. It is very gentle on your digestion. I was a bit fanatical about the whole low-carb high protien thing, but soon realized that it was not necessary for me to be extreme about it because the very small amount my sleeve allowed was less carbs then i would ever have to worry about! If i felt i needed more protein i just added the protein powder. There was something very comforting and satisfying about the cream of wheat on my tummy, that i still fall back on at times! :) So Enjoy!!
Hey there laborscrubnurse!! I had cream of wheat two weeks out and it was so good!! I still eat it, it goes down very easy and filling too! at 11 wks you shouldn't have any problem eating this type of food.
Maybe I am a little slow, but I found a Cream of Wheat with added protein and fiber in it just yesterday at Walmart. I have been wanting some oatmeal or cream of wheat for awhile but always end up passing on it cause I try to go with the more protein rich options.
you can always add some unflavered protein to it.
I love my cream of wheat! Especially with vanilla unjury added. I've been eating it since week 2.
One thing to note is that instant CoW and oatmeal have 'bad' carbs, but the kind you cook (takes 5 minutes) does not. If anyone is interested, Good Carbs, Bad Carbs
