6 days post op and no weight loss
I am six days post op and I have had no weight loss. I am able to get my fluids in without a problem. I don't have any symptoms other than mild gas. The gas just feels as if my stomach is growling, nothing major. ( i wonder if I am actually hungry and if that is not gas at all) I have no nausea, I am not tired, I have none of the normal symptoms except soreness at the incisions. I am thankful for not having problem but wonder if my sleeve was done restrictive enough. I also had an umbilical hernia repaired at the same time. Any advice to get the weight loss moving?
Re: 6 days post op and no weight loss
It could be water weight from the fluid that you get from the IV in hospital...It will happen...:)
Re: 6 days post op and no weight loss
You are 6 days out... I really wouldn't be looking for much loss this early. IV fluids, pumped full of gas, body has undergone huge shock to the system - all OK from the research I've done.
Why don't you check with others who were sleeved about the same time and compare notes?
Re: 6 days post op and no weight loss
You probably had some six liters of IV fluids and who knows how much gas in your abdominal cavity during the surgery. The weight loss will come; right now the important thing is healing. You'll expel the gas and metabolize the fluid and then you'll see some results on the scale. Just give it a little time.
Re: 6 days post op and no weight loss
I am today 7 days post op and I was feeling discouraged because I weighed myself yesterday and had lost only like a lb. I started thinking how swollen I was from IV fluids and decided to give it time. I mean I was significantly swollen on the side of my body that the IV was is even the nurse commented about how odd. Maybe you didn't notice but I would give it a little more time. You have been through a lot
Re: 6 days post op and no weight loss
Time. You probably won't start losing significant weight for a few weeks. Your body is a wreck and is basically static, just trying to repair itself.
If you read around here, you'll see that many people lose much more weight the 2nd month rather than the 1st.
Count yourself lucky for no problems and be happy! It'll happen! Drink and walk and live! :D
Re: 6 days post op and no weight loss
stay away from that silly scale for a few weeks. 1. iv fluids keep you alive and bloat you. 2. you are not hungry, but your body is fighting back. it is holding on to your fat as some weird survival mode. 3. my tummy growled with water...i think it was just curious as to what had just happened. 4. you will know when to eat (when you can) by a feeling of weakness. i suggest protein shakes/suppliments.
you are going to be fine...just give it time. pleeeaaase do not spend too much time on a scale. clothes are the best way to prove to yourself you are doing well because soon none of them will fit. also your activity level will prove you are a thinner person! all the best!
Re: 6 days post op and no weight loss
I agree with everyone else. The fluid and gas they pump into you at the hospital can take a while to come out. Make sure you're drinking your water every day and go out for a light walk a few times a day. If you have resistance bands, try using those for a light upper body work out as well. Working on the muscles can only help. In the mean time, just be patient...it will happen for all of us.
