How to Start Preparing for Surgery
I have now decided I want to do the sleeve. Now how do you get prepared before hand to get ready for surgery and afterwards? Any tips, suggestions, etc would be greatly appreciated. I am set for surgery October 23. I am nervous but in another sense so excited that I will finally be able to get up and go with my family without saying I can't do certain things.:D
Re: How to Start Preparing for Surgery
1st off...congrats on making your decision. I feel it's one of the best one's I've ever made.
Physically the best thing you can to to prepare is listen to your doctor and his/her staff. They are the experts. The wonderful people here will tell you what worked for them. Me included...but bottom line the best thing you can do is to take our experiences into consideration but FOLLOW your doc's instructions.
One thing I did was to start sampling protein powders and drinks. Bariatric Choice will send you free samples. Unjury.com has a starter pack for around $20. GNC and Vitamin World have individual packets that you can buy. Keep in mind that your tastes may change after the surgery. I have a case of Atkins Vanilla shakes that I'm planning to drop off at the gym as I can no longer tolorate them.
Start at least a walking routine now. Walking will be your best friend after the surgery to help relieve the surgical gas pressure afterwards...trust us on that one!
Keep a positive attitude...learn to take things in stride....it's not the easy way out by a long shot...but a positive attitude will make it easier.
Good luck to you in your journey!

I completely agree with Harley Granny. Prepare by getting all your foods and shakes purchased and sampled. Walk or other exercise is helpful. And give up any and all bad habits like smoking, drinking, caffeine. Good luck!!

That is one of my weaknesses. I love sweet tea especially being from the south.
