Anybody ever go back to smoking after surgery? Do you think if I had one ciggarette anything would happen?!
Well if I had one cigarette I would be back to a pack a day in less then 24 hrs. I know this from experience. I quit just over 2 yrs ago...this time.
If I were you, I'd ask myself "what good will one cigarette do me?". And then ask, "what harm could it do me". Your answer is right there.
I did just one and now I am back to smoking and lungs feel crappy!! Dont do it!!!
You are not even one month out from surgery....smoking impedes the healing process.....doesn't allow proper blood flow, etc......it's not a good idea
If you quit smoking to do something healthy for yourself, why would you go back to such an unhealthy habit?
I had the same question and so i was like oh hell one cant kill me and now back to a pack a day and I kick myself in the ass all the time because of it. Smoking is like crack to a crack addict you have to stay away or get pulled in. I joke with people all the time and say " Its a shame I can quit eating but I cant quit smoking" Good luck to you I know not smoking is a hard thing to go through.
soda was my crack. so i will always stay away from it now. What would one hurt you ask? A LOT
I quit smoking before surgery and then started back a month afterwards. However, I just visited my surgeon this week and he freaked out when I told him I was smoking again. He informed me smoking is very bad because it can cause ulcers along the staple line!!! Argghhh....so now I'm working towards quitting again. Sigh...I love smoking.
STEP - AWAY - FROM - THE CIGARETTES!!! My dr says, and I quote, "Smoking after surgery is almost suicide!" It will guarantee that you develop pouch irritation or an ulcer in your pouch and will manifest as chronic pain, nausea, and food intolerance. If the ulcer perforates your pouch, you will require emergency surgery and you can die.
HHHHMMMMMMMM, seems like a no brainer for me. You asked. :)
Unfortunately I didnt stop before or after surgery and havent had any problems, but would love to give up in the near future, I personally cant give up food and smoking at the same time lol but if you have given up and want 1 cigarette, dont do it! You will be much better off, I know I sound hypocritical, but I dont know, maybe word of encouragement to a non smoker from a smoker :)
As a former smoker, don't do it. Tell yourself you are smarter than that AND think of the money you'll save. One cig will turn into more and why give it all up for 5 minutes of "fun"????? Good luck and keep us posted!
I am trying hard to quit now and I dont have a surgery date as of yet. Smoking is the worst habit I have ever picked up a\and goes hand in hand with food and coctails and reading and driving and every other thing in the world. I really wish I would have never started. Gettting the Gastric Sleeve is a journey for me.... Something I think I need to live a long and happy life, if I can inrease that by dropping the newports as well... Sign me up!
Please dont.I started up again and now have severe ulcers. It is such a struggle and the pain and discomfort is just not worht it.
I ahve started and stopped and started again. 3 times in 7 months and I have to go on meds every time.It is not worth it.I am having a real tough time quitting as I smoke instead of eat now when I am stressed or emosional or even hungry.IT IS SO MUCH MORE DIFFICULT TO QUIT THAN BEFORE!
Just dont do it.
