    aaaaaaa
  2. Well, I stumbled across a fitness platform on our town's Facebook garage sale page for $20. It's called a Brookstone Total Fitness Platform. It's a pulley system where I can adjust the tension from 5 pounds to 75 pounds. It retails for over $120, so it was a lucky find. I started out a just 5 pounds and would do 1 set of 10-15 reps in the morning, and then 2 sets in the evening about an hour before bed. I've gradually increased the weight, and the reps. The platform allows me to po do the basics.... biceps, triceps, pecs, traps, squats to work out the quads.... but eventually I will move to using my husband's weight bench so i will have more options.
I just checked eBay and there is one available there. Exercise Platform Workout Gym | eBay. This is exactly what I use. You might be able to find something similar for a better price. Here is a link to information about it: Full-Body Home Exercise Machines at Brookstone. I am really enjoying it. It is heavy, but it fits under the coffee table or the bed. (Continued)

Can you tell me more about lifting weights? I think I want to try this but I am so out of shape I am a little scared. My weight is still going down, but I often get worried that it is not fast enough or that I am eating too much. Which is really funny because I still have not gone over 1000 calories in a day! Logically, I know that I will continue to lose weight by eating this way, but emotionally, I want a big dramatic visible loss!

I haven't started doing any exercise yet either. I went on a weekend retreat with my chorus and we stand on risers and sing for hours at at time. Needless to say, I was unable sing very much... too much strain on my stomach and incisions. I was very much reminded that it has only been 4 1/2 weeks! My weight loss has slowed way down, but I am getting more used to portion size. I get about 40 -50 oz. of water/crystal lite a day, more on better days. Definitely, one day at a time!!

Hope you are still doing well! I am 15 pounds down since surgery and feel like its going slowly, but just happy the scale is moving in the right direction! Have you started eating real food yet?

I am doing fantastic how about you? Yes, I am drinking between 64-100 oz. I am putting 75g of protein powder plus my milk 24g into sugar free pudding which is 99g total. I have at least 75g of that daily. This is going to be such a wonderful journey don't you agree?

Wow, thats a lot of weight loss! I weigh all the time so the progress seems slower but I am satisfied. Down 3 pounds since before surgery (not counting surgery gain). Starting on full liquids today - first coffee in a week. It was actually disappointing. Now am trying a chocolate/almond milk protein shake but I have had to thin it with water 3 times! So I guess I still need to have really thin liquids for now. I am going to really concentrate on getting my protein in today... yesterday only did 27g. I am also walking more today - in between football quarters! Hope you have an easy day.

I hope you are doing well on Day 5! I was sleeved on the 8th as well. So far, this has been pretty easy. Lots of gas, a little heartburn, and a little sore... Today I weighed the same amount as I did the morning of the surgery, so I am guessing that I have finally gotten rid of all of the extra fluids they gave me at the hospital.
I would love to hear how you are doing, too!

Yay!! Glad you are home and doing well. Our bodies have a tough time recovering sometimes but it sounds like you are doing fabulous so far. Just remember to keep up the walking in your house since the weather outside sucks for it. That will be important for your recovery and oxygen levels! Thanks for the update. You are on your way to a much smaller, happier you....one day at a time!

Learning How to Live Again

by The_Divine_Mrs_D on 05-22-2013 at 06:18 PM
It's been 134 days since surgery. I've lost 80 total pounds, 70 since 12/24 when I started my pre-op liquid diet. Each and every time I step on the scale and I watch the needle move to a smaller number, I am reminded of how fortunate I am to have had this opportunity to change my life.

I find myself learning how to live again. It may sound strange, but I am relearning social eating, how to more appropriate deal with stress and anxiety, and how to live a healthier lifestyle.

66 Days

by The_Divine_Mrs_D on 03-15-2013 at 11:22 AM
It’s been 66 days since my surgery. I've lost 55 pounds since last year, and 45 since the start of my pre-operative liquid diet on 12/24/2012. I still have about 80 pounds to go to reach my goal weight, but I already feel like a brand new woman! I have more energy than I can remember having since I was a teenager. Prior to surgery it was my husband who had to wait for me because I couldn't keep up. We went for a walk this week and I felt like I was walking circles around him. We’re lifting

The Wake-up Call

by The_Divine_Mrs_D on 01-24-2013 at 11:38 AM
It’s the sort of information no one wants to hear. “You dad is on his way to the ER with chest pains and shortness of breath.” Worry. Fear. Emotions. The phone calls, text messages, and instant messages from other family members started flowing in and I became the unofficial family spokeswoman. “No news yet.”

In all of my 39 years, I've never seen my dad in the hospital. He’s retired, an active fly fisherman, involved in the community and stays pretty busy. But years of

Half the Woman

by The_Divine_Mrs_D on 01-17-2013 at 08:02 PM
I am 9 days post-op and had my first follow-up appointment today. I've said it before here, and I'll say it again... I've been incredibly blessed with minimal post-operative issues. I didn't have gas pain. I didn't get constipated. I didn't have bloating. After the esophageal swelling was reduced (from a hiatal hernia repair), I've had zero problems with reflux. I am hugely thankful for the skill of surgeon, the quality of care, and for the life-changing opportunity I was given. I believe

Time

by The_Divine_Mrs_D on 01-15-2013 at 06:48 PM
It's been 7 days since I was sleeved, and like all of us going through the initial stages of recovery, I've had a lot of time to think. In recovery I'm off of work, the weather is not inviting so I pace the floors in our tiny house. I think I make the loop a thousand times a day. It's during these continuous loops that my mind wanders.

I think about how grateful that my husband breaks his body to provide for us, and for the insurance we're blessed with that covered the bulk of
