I work on Powell 4. You will be on North 6. All of LaMasters' patients go there. It is a really good floor. I got excellent care there.

The gym is just called Hy Vee fitness. Don't remember where you said you live. The south side of the store, facing Perkins, used to be the pharmacy a few years ago. Then they remodeled and moved the pharmacy to the north end of the store, so there was a big vacant spot on the south end. They opened a 24 hour gym there a couple months ago. It is a separate door but right next to the HyVee. It's $35 a month if you sign a 1 year contract. Real nice equipment. I drive right by it on my way to and from work and I need more vigorous exercise than I get at Curves.

I hope you are right about jump starting the weight loss again. I had to do the 6 month pre op for my insurance and I'm coming up on 5 months post op, so it's getting hard for me to stick with it... Old patterns don't change.

Again, congrats on your surgery date! I recommend bringing your own pillow, as hospital pillows are horrible. Bring some loose fitting slip on shoes, and just some sweat pants or something loose and comfy to wear home. You'll be swollen. I gained 13 lbs from the IV fluids! LaMasters likes to really push the IV fluids. I felt pregnant when I left the hospital I was so swollen. But of course it's just water weight and it comes off quick when you are discharged and no more IV.

Again, congrats on the surgery date. Time will fly!

Hey, whens your birthday? I am a fellow Gemini, June 5th here. I am one in every sense of the sign LOL

Hi! I started about 10 days post-op....and the first few did taste very strong and strange, couldn't finish a whole one. It took me about 6 days to smoke 20 cigs. I am trying to not get to where I was before with smoking, a pack a day. I might of stayed non-smoking longer but the only thing that worked for me was the nicotine patches and after about of month, my skin started itching like crazy and every where I had a patch was a square, red welp. I suffered thru that to get thru the surgery, LOL

As I think I said earlier, it helps me and the anxiety I sometimes get at night when I want to graze on food. My incisions are healing very well, as some will tell you it affects healing. I'm not drinking any alcohol and eating healthy foods, I have to have at least one vice, LOL

Good Luck and Best of success! Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns are you go along your journey. Its been a fun ride!

I haven't been on the forum as much lately. That is great! Good luck to you. That happened pretty quick once you got approval. Congrats! Best of luck to you.

I've been struggling lately. I went to California with my daughter on her high school trip and it was nearly impossible to eat healthy. We were in a very large group of people and had very little choice in where we ate and it was a lot of unhealthy foods. I've been having a hard time getting back on track. Only gained two pounds but it's been awhile since I've truly lost anything. I did good yesterday and so far today. Concentrating again on my protein and determined to get back on track. I lost back the two pounds I gained plus one more, determined to get another 20 lbs off soon so I can hit the 100 lb mark.

I went and toured the new gym that opened as part of the Hy Vee store on Fleur. I was really impressed with it. I'm planning on dropping my membership at Curves and changing over there soon so I can get some better exercise.

So happy you get your surgery so soon. I know you will be thrilled. My next appt isn't till June 12. Would love to get those 20 lbs off by then....

Keep me posted! I work overnight the 1st and 2nd so I'll be in the hospital those two nights.

    Good luck!

Did you get your surgery date yet?

Thank you so much!! :] Sounds like we may be having surgery around the same time! Hopefully it's sooner, rather than later. The waiting is frustrating, probably the hardest part. If they're just sitting on your referral, I would call! It doesn't hurt for you to call in and ask for an update, or to make sure things are getting passed along correctly. I'm on top of my people, haha. Good luck with getting a date soon!

I work 12 hr shifts as a floor nurse. I went back to work and back to Curves (I go to the one on Army Post) at 3 weeks post op. Prior to that I was doing a lot of mall walking and some outdoor walking. One day it was nice out I had hubby drive me maybe close to 2 miles from home then I walked home. I got a bit tired but I knew walking was the best thing for me for losing weight and being at risk for post op blood clots.

Have you met with her all ready? If not you would need to do the consult first. So you would probably need two pre op appts with her. I had my 3 month post op with her yesterday. I really like her a lot and I'm very glad I went with her. If my hubby goes through with the surgery as he is thinking of, he is going with Dr. Eibes, her partner. I'm sure he is great too. Not sure exactly why hubby is going with the other doctor, but it doesn't really matter. I just hope he does it. He was originally going to, then told me he wasn't going to, then out of the blue said he was... Men, who knows, lol.

If you need any more info, I'd be happy to help with anything I can. This weather is amazing and I'm going to start walking Gray's Lake again. I work 3 days a week so I'm home during the week a couple of days a week. I really want to start swimming as well. I was going to get up this morning and go to the public early morning swim at Urbandale indoor pool but didn't make it. I have today and tomorrow off then work Thursday so maybe tomorrow. Hubby and I are supposed to walk Gray's Lake tomorrow night too but he has difficulty doing the whole 2 miles. But anything helps.

    Talk to you later.

You get your date on your next appt with Dr. LaMasters after your approval. Just make sure the receptionists know you need an appt to set a surgery date cause it's a longer appt and you have to visit with Janelle as well (the dietician) to go over the pre op diet. I was working like crazy to get mine done in December because I was getting new insurance on Jan 1st. So I got an appt with LaMasters Thanksgiving week and had my surgery on Dec 7. She books her own appts, and does 6-8 a week. She operates on Wednesdays and Thursdays and does 3-4 a day. She prefers doing 3 a day but will do 4 if they are busy. You'll spend 2 nights on North 6 at Methodist then go home. She'll come and visit with you before the surgery and each morning after.

I have had a gastric sleeve.
Biography:
I'm 27 years old, I'll be turning 28 in a few months and dreading every minute of it. It just so happens my surgery should be shortly before my birthday so hopefully that will ease the pain of getting closer to the big 30! LOL I have a 9 year old son who is my EVERYTHING, while I am having the surgery for me I'd say he's motivating me more than anything. Like many of you I want to be able to enjoy life with my son before he's grown and it's too late. I think this surgery is to save lives NOT to save you time at the gym.
