I am 18 months post op.
Yes I will eat a McDonald's Big Mac occasional (maybe 1 a week), yea, I like a meat pie.
Weight has gone, and its not coming back, my wife is nearly 4 years out now and she has not put any weight back on and she has never been to the gym, walked or any exorcise at all.
I like to work out because I'm a guy, and guys like to have a bit of mussel, I also do cardio these days because it makes me feel good.
Before the surgery, I could diet, but after a few months it would be all back on again and sometime with a bit more!

That is a good healthy fear. Surgery is a big step. Don't take it
till you have all your homework done and questions answered.
I am an attorney and my motto is do the least intrusive thing
first then escalate if that doesn't work. It is of little value
to lose the weight if I gain it all back and more.
I can eat everything. There are some things I used to love
that I seldom eat (eggs, full fat premium ice cream) but
I not found anything I can't eat. The real work starts after
the healing. I lost and gained 100 pounds and 50 pounds
many times but never could keep it off or go the extra
mile to get beyond just being on a diet. WLS is serious,
but so was my 385 pounds.
Progress can seem slow, but you really only fail when you
    quit.

  4. I'm wondering, because I'm still unsure about having the surgery, If I follow the liquid high protein diet that I see everyone is on post-op, then move to soft diet, etc, I would also loose weight. What's the difference? Fighting nausea instead of cravings and hunger? Sometimes I think surgery is too drastic, other times I think everything else I've done has failed, it seems like the only option left. What if I have the procedure, loose the weight and gain it back? Is anyone here a year or more out? Are you able to eat normal foods in smaller amounts? I just keep going back and forth, I want to have the procedure, but I'm afraid of failing again, and then where will I be?
