  1. Hello time penny, like most people that are having surgery you feel mixed emotions but I assure you- You will have a very professional experience. When I arrived I went to a very small but very clean and tidy clinic. The nurse did blood work and they did my ekg. We later met Dr. Almanza and he will be the first to tell you he does not speak english well but some of the nurses do. This will be a good opportunity to ask any questions you have at this time. Dr. Almanza take away any of your fears because he has had this experience with gastric sleeve. It also helps that he is very easy on the eyes. (lol) After waiting on the remaining patients we returned to a beautiful hotel. Language barrier but very nice and polite people. Got rest and we were picked up @ 4am. I had 5 more people in my group. I was third in line for surgery. Went well and then went to recovery, Nurses will constantly check on your iv, stats, bp or whatever you need. After returning to the hotel I and my husband went walking and site seeeing and the night before our last night we went to the beach. Needless to say we crashed in the hotel.

Hope your surgery went well. I am using Dr Almanza in sept I am really nervous. Everyone here thinks I'm crazy for going to Mexico. They think I'll be butchered . Please help me understand your experience there so I can feel more at ease.

Good luck with the next step in your journey.
  4. Thank you, Thank you sooooooooooooooooooo much and continued success on your journey. I had the lapband in on 08 and as you mentioned grazing. Well I grazed my band out and it bulged I had to have it taken out because of my failure to do what I was suppose to do. I realize that and now I am having the gastric sleeve.

I was a little skeptical. WIll I really only be able to eat 3 tablespoons. Yep and I do not want another bite. I went to dinner with my daughter last night. I ordered a cup of black bean up and a side of guacamole. I after about 5 spoons of soup I didn't want it any more and I had about 1/4 of the guacamole. I also found I didn't want to be there any more, it was a weird feeling I just wanted to leave. Figuring out how to eat will be a challenge but it is something that you can do. Good luck try to follow the liquids if you just cant do all liquids add some protein (one night I came home from work and I was really irritated and was yelling at everyone and my kids told me to eat something, then my son made bacon so I ate 3 pieces and stopped yelling.) just stay away from all carbs.

The liquid diets were not too bad. My doctor let me eat some protein. I work at a desk all day so I had all my fluids with me and sipped all day. I tried different protein drinks, different broths and it took me a while to find what I liked. I have had the lapband so it is not like I ate a lot at a sitting but my issues is/was I like to graze. So I found if I had my water, protein, tea next to me and reached for that and I didn't have anything else around me it worked. About a month before surgery I worked with my kids and we cleaned out the pantry. I threw away and donated anything and everything. Then I went to Costco with the kids and we bought healthier options. Tuna, pasta, sauce, vegetables, soups and restocked the pantry. I told them I would not be cooking dinner during my liquid or after so they were having to get it together. so far that has worked. Do not surround yourself with unhealthy choices, stay away from food (sure this sounds easy) but I just walk the other way, I also started getting in the habit of ordering the smallest available. Believe me after surgery you will have to order small or you will be wasting a lot.
  7. your are welcome
