  1. Hello Bylinda. I like your new profile pic! What a beautiful photo of the flag. It's nice to be back to work & the grind helps keep my mind off of the recovery. We are both doing good. Megan was alittle frustrated in the beginning but now, she is starting to lose pretty significantly. I lost a lot in the beginning but tapering off now, which like you, is fine for me. I think our bodies need time to catch up with the surgery. I lost 20+ lbs the first 2 wks & have been "stalled" this last week. I don't think it is truly a stall b/c obviously I didn't lose 20 lbs of fat in those 2 wks. I am sure it is a combination of weight loss, tissue loss from the surgery & fluid shift of this tremedous new dynamics going on in our bodies.

I slept pretty much my first week. I slept 20 hrs day when I first got back into Iraq. I would be awake for 2 hrs for lunch & 2 hrs for dinner, then back to bed. I am sure I was jet lagged as well as everything else. Now, I am still trying to get back to a regular sleep cycle. I usually go to sleep around 9 pm, up at 4 back to bed at 6 and usually sleep till 9 or 10. but it's getting better. staying up later, sleeping thru the night & getting up at a regular time in the morning. So, all in all, still wonderfully happy with the surgery. I know it will all come off eventually. My goal was never to to lose 80 lbs in 6 months. If I lose 1 or 2 lbs a week, that's awesome. Anyways, hope you are well too. TTYL-DAVE
  2. Recovery on an air plane...doesn't exactly sound wonderful to me but I realize you do what you have to. Be sure you wear loose clothing home. I was able to fit into my jeans but if my trip had been any longer...nothing near what yours will be...I would have been in dire straits. When I finally got home I was so tired. Bed was the only thing I was interested in and there was no laying awake once my head hit the pillow. I am sure you will pretty much feel the same.
Please stay safe and have a nice visit with your daughter. I wish you both much success with your flights, surgery and weight loss. Keep in touch. Always, Bylinda
  3. Bobby, you sound like a very busy man. Do your children realize what an amazing gift you are giving them? They hopefully do. To get a college education with out debit is WOW!
Now to scold you. You are not just a practitioner! When my husband was alive he and I went to a Practitioner instead of the doctor because we got better care and more quality time from her than from any doctor...she listened to us and we worked as a team. When my husband was diagniosed with stomach cancer she drove over 90 miles to see him in the hospital every day as he was in the VA Hospital in Rancho Cordova south of Sacramento. We lived just outside of Redding. She didn't have to do this. From where you are and the situation over there you are doing an amazing service for this country and all those 550 people you watch out for on a daily basis...I know, you don't see all of them every day but you do see your fair share and I know you give them the best you have or you wouldn't be there. Ok, now I am off my soap box.
  4. in a little place called Mosul, which is the second largest city in Iraq. I will be doing my "rehab" & "recovery" on the fly at work here.
Luckily, I operate a 1 man clinic so I pretty much am my own boss. My site manager is pretty cool, as the rest of the management here so we're good there. I just planned on telling them I picked up a bug on R&R & am nursing a touch of the stomach flu. <wink><wink>. So, that's my story in a nutshell. I miss the good ole USA very much but the money here is very good. I have 2 kids in college & when they both graduate, they will have no debt at all. So, easy come - easy go! I wanted to do this surgery so that I can have something to remember Iraq by over the years... he he he... It was something for me that is a gift that will keep giving over the years. Thanks for your interest, keep in touch! I know I will continue to post my adventures as it gets closer to SX date. CHEERS!
  5. Well, Bylinda, first off - thx for writing. My story isn't very glamorous but just simple. In the spirit of full disclosure, I am not a doctor. I am a medical practitioner, which is a fancy way of saying that I am a medic, paramedic, OJT trained care giver that works on the level of a PA over here. I work for a security company that provides Force Protection to the US Army. We man the towers, ECP's & other check points, freeing the actual US Military to do their job. We fill the actual guard positions with Ugandans (from Africa). I provide care for 500 Ugandans & 50 Expats (US citizens working abroad). It is a very rewarding job, always interesting, mostly entertaining, & sometimes very frustrating!

I will leave Iraq on June 11th via Mil Air to Kuwait, where we have to do paperwork & passport thingys, etc. After 24 hrs in Kuwait, I will fly to San Diego about 25 hrs with connections. I have one flex day in there incase anything goes wrong; miss a connection, etc. My daughter will meet up with in SD on Tues night after she leaves school. She will arrive around 1130 pm. Then the next day @ 0800 get picked up by the TJ bus & off to MX! After the surgery & recovery, I will fly back to Kuwait saturday late afternoon. Arrive back into Kuwait early monday morning & again undo all the passport thingys I did the week before. Arabs love paperwork! Where I will hop back on mil air to northern Iraq
  6. I have stumbled around over and over with the weight ticker. I know you can click on your ticker and it will take you to the area where you can change your weight. However when I try to save it if it has been changed it doesn't do it for me. What am I doing wrong? Please tell me as this is frustrating! Byl.

Hi, I just saw your post. I use Max Protein. It is really good. I bought mine at GNC, but you can order it online.
  8. I have a question for everyone that has already been sleeved

I will have my sleeve and spend several days in the hospital as we all do. I will need to be back to work on Monday after Surgery on Thursday. How did you feel and were you able to make it all day at your job the first week after? I do have an office job and sit at a desk all day so this is to my advantage. This particular time of the month is very slow so that too will be in my favor. I more or less want to know what to expect. Thanks in advance. Bylinda OH Yeah...how do you find the area where you start a new question or thread in this sight?

Not sure what to call this!

by wannabhealthy on 05-21-2011 at 08:15 PM
Hello all my sleeved friends and future sleeved friends. I have begun to have feelings that are totally unusual for me...Please don't think me cruel in some of the things I am going to say.
Before I was sleeved if I saw a large person...larger than myself I used to think at least I am not that big. I feel so badly about thinking this way. I used to go to the grocery store and just buy what ever I wanted and not really worry about anything on the lable. I was huge so why bother right?
