Dr Kelly Ramos

I am just looking for some opinions. I have read some great things about Dr Kelly and he was my first choice until I heard about the patients that died last year. I have not really heard the details of it but it freaked me out. So I started looking for another Dr but can not stop thinking about all the continued reviews about Dr Kelly that still say great things and people are still flocking to him? I am hoping to have my surgery this month and am now torn between Dr Kelly and my other choice? Can anyone help me out with then Dr Kelly thing and how others that are going to him recently are dealing with the death thing?

Im willing to bet they didn't die due to anything he did. Some people are not In the best shape and should not have surgery, from there heart to lungs. I also think there are a FEW that have been turned down in the US and go to mexico. THIS IS JUST MY THOUGHTS. Don't jump down my back If you don't agree!

Ok i'm going to dr. Kelly as well and have not heard one word about any deaths.. I would love to read this feedback as well. I have only heard such wonderfull things.

Thats my thoughts ... Not everyone can go through this type of thing and anytime you have surgery you are taking a chance no matter what dr. You use. I love the idea that dr. Kelly uses the glue as well and not the stiches.

From what I understand there was one patient who died last year of a pulmonary embolism. It was also posted that she was on medication she did not disclose. Who knows what the truth really is. My sistet and I are leaving for MX on Thurs and will be sleeved by Dr Kelly on Friday. We are really nervous but feel like we are in great hands. I will come back and tell you about our experience next week

Well you guys are in good hands. I had surgery with Dr. Ramos-Kelly 5-26-2011. I was truly amazed by the care by both Dr. Ramos-Kelly and the staff at the hospital. And as with any surgical procedure there are possibilities of something happening, weither you are in the United States or Mexico ...if its your time...no one can save you. Best of luck to you all headed to Tijuanna.. if any of you need to talk about this...my door is open,.

I was sleeved by Dr. Kelly on 3/10/12 and he did a fabulous job! I am very happy with my results so far and with the care of his entire team!

I had Dr. Kelly also. I had wonderful care and Dr. Kelly is VERY skilled at this surgery.
I heard about the death before I went , but it didn't stop me. You can die anytime you go under the knife.. I just had faith and came through just fine.
My whole experience was great.. I went alone too and never felt scared once.

Dr. Kelly was my surgeon, and he is a gifted surgeon. You will be in very good hands. There was only 1 patient that died and it was an embolism. There is a slight risk for death with this procedure, regardless of which surgeon you use. Some patients are at a much higher risk than others, and you should weigh the risks vs. the reward. Good luck on your journey.

The patient’s death was not from an embolism, an artery was nicked and she died from loss of blood. It’s very unfortunate and sad. She was a young girl.

Why would I make something like this up? This is just a plain fact! I don't know what the other circumstances were. I only know what this woman posted and what she said when I talked to her. Read this from the woman who was there with Debbie when she died. She was there with her daughter who had surgery just before Debbie. Debbie was on OH as Gibgirly Surgeons in Mexico? I guess I prefer to believe Dr. Kelly. I point blank asked him about the death and he told me it was an embolism. There is a 1% mortality rate with weight loss surgery, regardless of the surgeon.

dont use him! If he was responsible for people dying and she is still allowed to practice medicine, he wont care about you! Go to Dr. Alamanza!

Dr. Kelly was in my top list of surgeons based upon credentials,(FACS, ASMBS) training, (US fellowship) experience, reputation and reviews and he practices in a real certified hospital. For me, it was quite easy to rule out all but 4-5 surgeons in TJ.
There are zero surgeons in the sub $5K that meet these credentials. Does that mean that all of the lesser priced surgeons are not qualified and capable? Of course not.
We all have our criteria, for me the above credentials were paramount in my decision making. I would expect a surgeon in the US to have these criteria, so why would I lower my standards elsewhere? Money was a lower priority for me. I understand that some need financing to have the surgery so the cost is a higher priority and a $2K difference makes a large difference.
I ultimately chose another surgeon that I felt best met my needs. Kelly would have been fine for me.
As far as complications with Dr. Kelly, apparently he did have some. Which surgeon has not?
On this site, Dr. Almanza's miscues are deleted so in order to obtain more accurate info, one has to search elsewhere.

This is all about opinions, research and comfort level, not political partisanship.
Although, IMHO, I totally disagree and shake my head at the way some people choose physicians, I respect their decision and will not mock or belittle them. There is no place for this on this site.
