    Default Soft food stage

I am finally at the soft food stage after the surgery. The dietriation said that I could have whole wheat tortilla's. OMG those hurt!!! I am sooo not ready for that. Talk about a sucker punch to the gut, and that is only with 2 bites. How long did any of you wait before you had grains?

I'm six months post-op, and I hardly ever have room for grains.

If you follow your doc's instructions (eat protein first; then if you have room eat colored, healthy veggies; then if you have room eat whole grains) you'll probably be a long time getting to whole grains.

Whole grains are things like brown rice, quinoa, bulgur, oatmeal, kasha, shredded wheat, barley, buckwheat, wheat berries, etc. (Google "whole grains" for great lists of these foods.)

Protip: Just because a food might contain one ingredient that's a whole grain does NOT make that food "a whole grain." A perfect example of a food like this is ... wait for it ... whole grain tortillas. How can you tell? By reading the (often quite shocking) list of ingredients on the label.
