How do you get all the protein in? I've heard that it is 80 or 90 grams? I am at the point of insurance submission and it is becoming real to me. This site is so helpful.
At first, it will be very difficult to get anywhere near that much protein (or water) in per day. I tried to stay focused on being hydrated and I added un-flavored protein powder wherever I could. I came home from the hospital on "full liquids" including cream soups, pudding, Jell-O, etc. which obviously do not have much protein. I also was drinking protein shakes in between "meals" which counted as liquid as well. As you can eat more and you advance your foods, you will be able to get more protein in by way of regular food. But even at 6 months out, I still have one protein supplement a day to help boost me over my limit. As you heal and can eat more, it will get easier and easier.
I have a whey protein powder that I got at Wal-mart. It's tasty to me. I put 1/2 cup of skim milk in my blender and a full scoop of powder in with it and blend. That gives me 24 grams of protein in about 4-5 ounces. That is doable at least twice a day. My goal is 40-60 grams a day and I am on full liquids right now. I also like EAS pre-mixed shakes from Wal-mart. One shake is 11 ounces and has only 100 calories, 17 protein grams, and only 1.5 net carbs. Good luck to you. Also, GNC sells Isopure clear protein. It's a 20 ounce bottle with 40 grams of protein but I didn't like any of the flavors I tried.
