Default Am I way off base....?

    Hey, everyone!
I'm new to the forum but have been "lurking" for awhile. This is a great community! I really appreciate that a newbie like me can learn about all aspects of the surgery.

I'm in the process of getting all info to my insurance company and hope to hear something by end of next week.

I've been thinking (danger! ) and am wondering if I might actually enjoy food more than I ever have once I'm, say, a year or so out after getting sleeved. My thought is that I've always just shoved stuff in my mouth without ever pausing and savoring. From what I've been reading, we're forced to slow down with the sleeve and was just wondering if that's allowed anyone to actually taste and enjoy the food they do get to have.

I look forward to any insight you have and am excited about my upcoming journey and getting to know you!

I have a totally different relationship with food now. I used to shovel as much as possible in that pie hole of mine without thinking about it. Now during the day, I just use food as fuel, HOWEVER, dinner time is when I either cook or we go out and it is savoring time. I smell everything, I identify flavors more, I take my time eating tiny bites and chew them well, I put my fork or spoon down and enjoy every moment. I have become very creative in my cooking as well. My husband has lost over 20 lbs just from how I cook (and lack of junk in the house).

Yes, I do think taste buds change some, or maybe desires change and taste buds appear to as a result. I am enjoying food as much now as I did before. But it's just different. Food is fuel now. And it makes me feel good. Before it just mad me fat but content.

You're absolutely NOT way off base! Some choose to look at how much they can't have. I feel sorry for those folks! I choose to look at it like this... I'm only going to get a little bit of whatever it is, so I'm gonna make it count! For the first time in my life I can eat what I like (in small quantities) and not feel the need to gorge myself! I generally choose protein first, but do not highly restrict carbs. I avoid "diet" anything, opting instead for full flavor, reasonable choices prepared how I like them. BEST GIFT EVER, this freedom from food obsession!

Don't worry about hurting my feelings because I guarantee you not one bit of my self esteem is tied up in your acceptance.

Its a month since my sleeve surgery and even though I had some problems I do not regret the surgery. This is not easy nor cure all. I sometimes feel hungry but it really only in the head. Since surgery I lost 13 pounds which totals 53 labs since middle june2013. I did expect to lose more my first month but everyone lose at a different speed. If I didn't have the surgery unwound probably gain.
