Default Which Protein shakes?? And what to look for??

I am still in the process of getting everything line up to have the gastric sleeve. I am a little confused about all the protein shakes. Which ones taste the best? And which ones have the most protein? I have thought about the GNC total lean but it has 17 Carbs. Is that too many? What kind of nutrition content should I be looking for? Thanks for any help that yall have to offer.

wal-mart has protien drinks in little cartins called advantedge, it has 17 protiens in it. so but u need to have 60 a day. sometime u will make it & sometime u wont . but try. sip continuosly on water , not with ur meal time tho. 1 hr before stop water. then 1 hr after start it again. sip sip sip. i have the band its the same way. im getting the sleeve cause the band isnt doing its job anymore. so if u have to live on protien drinks ...so be it. u will stay healthy for it. its a slow process. but a great choice if u want to loose wt. cant wait to get this band out & get my sleeve done before i gain too much wt. i have gained 25 lbs back out of the 11 yrs i have had it. not bad. but want to stay thin. good luck to u. oh, the drinks are van, strawberry, chocalate. they taste pretty good to me. i like strawberry. very good. and the protien drinks help to burn fat . see ya

Hi, Misty. I am also in the Houston area, and it looks like we will be using the same dr. Unjury protein powders are the only ones I have found that are not too sweet for my taste. I like the chocolate. Right now, I am mixing it with the HEB Mootopia milk, which adds even more protein. Sometimes I add a small amount of peanut butter, it cuts the sweetness and adds protein. Post surgery, I have been told I can't use the milk to mix it, so it does have me a little concerned. I am going to do some reasoning with the dr. If I can have fat free milk, and the protein, why can't I mix them together? I am also making my own chicken broth and freezing it, I also plan on making beef broth and trying the unflavored protein in those.

Be careful please when choosing your protein powder. Just because it's listed protein is 23 g for example...that does not mean your body absorbs the full 23 grams. Each powder is given a PDCAA score. A score of 1.0 means your body absorbs the listed amount. Unjury scores a 1.0 and also tastes great. Also, Whey protein should be the first listed ingredient in any that you choose. I'm sure your nutritionist could educate you more on PDCAA scores or you could probably look it up yourself. Good luck!

Like secretblonde said, your tastes will change after surgery. Don't make the mistake I did. I have an arsenal of protein that I
can't do anything with. Liked it before, can't stand it now.

Its a personl choice and what you can tolerate. I cant stand the Muscle milk, Premier Protien i can kinda tolerate.
I love the EAS protein shakes. BUT

My advice is go to a nutrition store. Quite often they will have sample packs ( at least of the big jugs of powder shakes ) I did that a few days ago and walked out with Quest proteing bars, white chocolate, cookie dough, and a big jug of Forza Pro Protein powder. Doesnt have the bitter after taste which is #1 with me. Totally YUMMER

17 grams of carbs is way too much. Look at another brand. Body fortress from w mart. ..30 grams of protein, like 8 grams of carbs. What I've used. Weight flew off on it.

I am 5 days post op and using Celebrate Vanilla Cake Batter ENS. Two of these a day gives you 60 gram protein if you mix with 6 ounces skim milk and 2 ounces water. Also you get your calcium and vitamins at the same time. Less to worry about. If it's too cold it can cause spasms and go slow drinking. I have added coconut extract or cocoa powder for variety. Tomorrow I may try a little cinnamon.

So, how did everything go with Dr. Almanza? Details on your trip, surgery, experiences, tips, items taken on trip, etc... I'm having mine with Dr. Almanza on March 20,2015. I'm so excited and a little nervous as well.

I love Premier protein shakes. You can get them at Sam's Club, and maybe Wal-Mart. They have 30g per shake, 1g sugar and taste amazing. I love the chocolate, but they also have vanilla and strawberry.

I use whey isolate protein unflavoured, with frozen fruit or fresh fruit with milk. 30 grams of protein, low cal and carb. Buy it at Popeyes. Like it when I don't feel like cooking or preparing food. Easy peasy
