Default Their dessert ≠ My dessert (don't open if you are craving sweets)

I need to start with a disclaimer. I am 2 years out and in maintenance so the occasional sweet is not completely off-limits to me. However, I do not have this everyday.

We had a really nice dinner tonight of baked spinach pesto cod packets, mixed grain rice, and steamed broccoli, so I thought I would make an easy dessert, too.

I took a basic cake mix and tossed in a cup of Saskatoon berries. Whilst the cake was baking, I made a sauce of an equal ratio of berries and Tropical Five Alive juice (I had some that had to be used up). I cooked it for about 15 minutes, mashed some of the berries, and then tasted it. It would have been very good for a meat sauce at that point, but for a dessert sauce it needed to be a bit sweeter. So, I added some sugar and then after that dissolved, I added a bit of cornstarch slurry to thicken it slightly.

The Tropical 5-Alive juice actually gave it a nice citrusy finish.

The kids had theirs with vanilla ice cream. I had about 1/3 of their portion and I had mine with vanilla frozen yogurt.

My plate is very small. In fact, all the plates and bowls I use for myself are very small. My plate looks very full and overflowing but the portion is really very little. It tricks my brain into thinking I have a lot. Is this an indulgence for me? Absolutely! But I can be satisfied with having something like this once or twice per month. That is my tool working for me. Refined carbs, for me, even in such little quantities, will never be a regular part of my life. I just cannot tolerate them. But, I can have them now and then.

The point of this post is not to tease you with a picture of a dessert. The point of this post is to show that la dolce vita is still there for living.

I like your version of dessert. That said, I picked some frozen vanilla Greek yogurt on Wednesday and this post reminded me it is still untouched in the freezer. Of course I may try making a milkshake tomorrow.

I'm day six and while this looks pretty, it doesn't tempt me at all. It's great to know that someday I can taste a dessert if I want it, but for now I'm just focused on 60g or protein
    Day of Surgery 7/22: 201
    Month 1: 187
    Month 2: 176
    Month 3: 166
    Month 4: 158
    Month 5: 150
    Month 6: 143
    Month 7: 138
    Month 8: 133
Month 9: 130 (reached target goal)
    Month 10: 126
    Month 11: 126
    Month 12: 123
Month 13-18: 121-123 (weight range on maintenance)

Current goal: maintain weight in low 120s. Exercise 6 days a week - weight lifting, yoga, biking, running, paddleboarding, and just being active.
