I am absolutely in love with kombucha - a fermented tea with lots of health benefits and lots of carbonation...
Is it true that we can't have carbonation after surgery?
Thanks!
Had my visit with the NUT today for Pre-op nutrition and it's a no on anything carbonated or that could put excess air into our new bellies. So no straws or sippy bottle tops..As a diet coke junkie it will be hard to stop but the payout will be well worth it.. Healing properly and getting healthy is my new focus. You just need to see if this is something you can give up also. Good luck to you
The three worst things for me were caffeine, my AM coffee and my craft beer addiction. All had to go. I weaned myself off the caffeine slowly and now I have decaf in the AM. I get the "sticks" in a box of crystal light or the walmart or target version. I do a lot of tea. The craft beer unfortunately I will have to wait on - have heard after a year you can do a little bit.
My surgical team does not use the word NEVER. It was brought up several times during the seminars because NO carbonation would mean no beer ever. We were told that after a year we could indulge in some beer but to take it slow and easy. I must say that I am not a beer drinker so no worries there but I used to drink diet mountain dew by the cases. I am proud to say that I have NOT drank a soda in 20 months. I did have a sip of one at a resturant about a month ago and it taste like someone was pouring syrup into my mouth, I dont know HOW i drank them for years now. As for caffiene I have been drinking coffee from the first week after my surgery. We were told one or two cups a day would be fine, we were not told to use decaff so I still have my morning joe.
It is funny how orders are different depending on what Surgical team you are using. Godspeed on your journey.
I used to make my own Kombucha tea... still have scobies left in the fridge... but everyone is right... cabonation will do a number on your stomach... I was out to lunch (hahahah.. nothing new there) with a friend a few months ago and I totally didnt think about the well drink I ordered.. rum and coke.... one drink and then I remembered.. wth? coke is carbonated... I could not even sip it.. it was just nasty!
I'm completely off sodas (if I get absolutely overwhelmed with a craving for a coke then I get a small coke icee which may technically be carbonated, but nowhere near what you get with an actual coke as far as bubbles)
However, I love hard cider and champagne.
I just take it in small sips and nurse one the entire night ("The entire night" in my world is movie/tv marathoning with the roomie, not going out).
