Hi Everyone,

Chapter 1 -
I have had a band in since 2006 and initially lost 34 kg and was feeling great although struggling with what I could and could not eat. 2 years after the initial surgery I started suffering extreme reflux to the point I was bringing up blood so almost all the fluid was removed. For some reason after this I could not even tolerate 1/2 the fluid being put back in. As a result and due to the fact that although the band was still in and causing me problems I started regaining weight and went from 85kgs back up to my current weight of 110 kgs.
I have days when everything I eat I vomit up, then feel hungry so go to something like custard or icecream as I know it wont interfere and I can keep it down. And yes I've heard all the perfect people say well you should eat soup, and as we all know there is only so much soup you can eat, and apart from that I would be feeling so crap after the vomiting I just wanted some comfort food.

Chapter 2 -
I did a heap of research for a couple of years, and decided to have the band removed and have a gastric sleeve operation.I also know and spoke to several people at different stages of their progress since having their op and was firmly decided that I was on the right track. I could not afford the cost but wanted to access my super on the grounds of medical reasons but as I was living in remote WA getting all the specialist visits and written documentation became a nightmare so I put it all on hold. During this time, I have type 2 diabetes, my contition had slowly worsened and the fact that I could not eat healthy nutritious food due to the band only contributed to this. I have ended up with fasting blood sugars of 12-16 even with medication and am now looking at having to go on insulin.

Chapter -3

SInce moving back to my original home of Tasmania i have now seen all of the appropriate specialists, gathered all the required documentation, and thankfully i have now had my early access approved............yay. My first surgey to remove the band is scheduled for Feb 9th and then the sleeve surgery procedure date will be confirmed. I am feeling really positive and blessed to have the emotional support of family and friends. Was adauntedby all the info needed for DHS but managed to get it all in the end.

TBC....

My doctor does them at the same time, take the band off and sleeve's. I wonder why they wont to both at the same time?

I HAD BAND REMOVED FOR SIMILAR REASONS AND 2 YEARS LATER GOT THE SLEEVE, WHAT A DIFFERENCE FOR ME. TOTALLY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE FOR THE GOOD. THAT WAS ALMOST 4 YEARS AGO AND I AM VERY SATISFIED. GOOD LUCK TO YOU
