Default A new years resolution i can LIVE with :)

This year I made a resolution I can actually do. I am giving up all artificial sweeteners, all no calorie sweeteners, all chemical sweeteners, all things that say they are natural but are calorie free sweeteners.

The only thing I will miss is my sugar free popcicles. I seriously love those things.

In an effort to make my life more healthy as a WHOLE...I am reducing all processed foods, all chemicals...and most importantly all sweeteners. Instead of having a sip of diet coke, i'll have a sip of real coke at the movies...or better yet no coke at all. Instead of having a 10-25 calorie sugar free popcicle i will have a 40 calorie juice bar with real sugar as a treat OCCASIONALLY or better yet a piece of real fruit. no more pre packaged crap food....I've been doing freezer bags of dinners i make and making my own microwavable lunches

i have never drank the zero waters, the zero gatorades, the crystal lites, or any protein shake...ever, so it will not be difficult in that regard....but i did enjoy the 50 cal juices and those darn popcicles haha.

anyway...what is your new years resolution, OTHER than losing weight that is!

I have often thought it is better to ingest items with real sugar then artificial sweeteners. My wife and I have eliminated 95% or more of all processed foods in our diets a few years ago. Though cooking at times takes longer the quality is so much better. Soda we cut out two years ago and only have the occasional real soda every three months or so, but since surgery I have not had any.
SO I think your New Year’s resolution is a good one and applaud you for it.

Food wise - I'm aiming towards paleo as much as possible. It's truly difficult to stick to any one food doctrine especially with lactose/gluten-grains and whey sensitivities, along with now having essential tremor and post bariatric post prandial hypoglycemia which means I actually need to have complex carbs at every meal, because eating nearly purely protein makes both issues worse. I guess my resolution is to work with my neurologist, endo and regular docs to come up with a plan. that and to find something other than food to think about and enjoy since most days lately I don't care if I ever eat again it's so annoying to think about what I "have"to eat next.
Other than food wise it would be to get our house packed up with help and pray it sells so I can get my sick self down by my daughters as I now hurt so much most days from my cfids I can't make the 30 mile drive to visit more than once a week and then I hurt so badly the next days I can't leave the house and I have to use dragon naturally speaking to type like now.
    Ultimate resolution? to find peace
Best NSV - fitting on a kid's amusement park ride with my 4 yr old grandson!
CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.

Oh Grace, I feel so bad for you being in so much pain I am half way through reading "wheat belly" and have learned a lot about gluten sensitivities. I've been considering making a try at eliminating wheat next. That's a tough one for me since I DO eat some breads and I use it for sauces, gravies, meat coatings etc. I figure one battle at a time.....i'm sorry you having to fight so many battles all at once

Man, Grace, it seems you just do NOT get any breaks where being healthy and feeling good is concerned. Sorry this is so burdensome for you.

Oh, don't mind me... I get whiney
Giving up sf sweeteners is truly hard if you are used to everything tasting sweet. I got close, by eliminating all but sweet n low as all the rest have proof of influencing (my) blood sugars and stalling weight loss in some folks. Sweet n low is going too but oh, it's hard. I like your idea of having fruit, and if it's low GI fruit like strawberries it can even be more often. When I am aching for something sweet I am aiming for a naturally sweet tasting tea, with coconut creamer in it. Right now that's Red rose decaf cinnamon streusel tea. For a little sweetness sometimes I add 1 tsp of granulated maple sugar. It doesn't affect (my) blood sugar near as much as even sf sweeteners and you only need a little.
Paleo is fast becoming this time's Atkins. The hardest part? Giving up dairy!
I wonder if we even would have gained weight in the first place if we'd eaten that way from when we had solid food. Maybe this generation of Moms can help their kids be healthier than we were/are. We can hope! http://www.examiner.com/article/cons...hers-paleo-win
