Im only 16 days Post op .. but i was wondering.. I can only eat 4-5 bites of food before i get that "feeling" .. the feeling that I know I'm done. If i push it, which i have once.. i paid for it for the next few hours feeling very overfull with a lump in my throat and burping it back up lol. Also curious if anyone else started getting heartburn after surgery. Ive only ever had heartburn while pregnant and now it seems I get it quite often..

Heartburn or acid reflux is common after surgery, take some Zantac or something like that and it will go away. Lots of people on this site have experienced the acid stomach. Tums also help. Also, that's how I felt for a long while after surgery, but it does get better and better. Soon it will all be a vague memory and you'll move forward losing weight, feeling healthy and loving the sleeve. Continued success!

    Hi Monica
I had my surgery at the end of November last year and I can't eat an awful lot more than you.
The only thing I would say is that 16 days seems awfully quick to be eating much at all - are you not still on liquids hon?
Don't push it - listen to your body ..... You will know when you have had enough. Sometimes it's after a couple of mouthfuls, sometimes it's more.
At the moment you have to bear in mind that your sleeve is new so the worse thing you can do is push things by trying to eat more than you can fit in comfortably.
I think it takes a while for the mind to catch up with the body, and once you get used to not eating much you really won't want it anyway!
Good luck hon - I'm five and a half stone down now and it's the best thing I ever did!
    Xx

Thanks =).. I moved onto soft/pureed food Wednesday..and I think I was so excited to taste something again I overdid it one time.. I will not do it again.. thats for sure. And I agree the mind does take longer to catch up.. Sometimes Im sad that Im done after 3 or 4 mouthfulls. The "sadness" only lasts for a few minutes.. but likewise it does happen. Thanks for the responses ladies!!

Get something like prilosec and take it daily. My Dr. prescribes it for a year after surgery. It protects the staple line and keeps the acid under control. I haven't had a issue since my surgery and I take it everyday.

I'm 7 months out and still, on some days, I can only eat 4 or 5 bites before getting "the feeling".Other days, I can et more. Just take it a day at a time...well...at your stage, a meal at a time!!!!
I took Prilosec before the surgery and still have to take it now...if I miss even one night, I get heartburn. I guess, for me, it will be lifelong. No big deal.

When you get further along I heard you can eat up to a cup of food. But for me it depends on what I am eating.

As far as the sadness goes I went through that when I was in your stage and it really does pass girl. Soon you can eat anything, just be careful and don't overdo yourself.

You should be on pureed stage for 2 more weeks and you should not be taking in anymore than 1/4 cup per meal. Measure your food until you can judge what you have on your plate. I am 6 weeks and 5 days post op and that is all I can take in.
I did suffer from acid reflux for a couple of days but I cut back a little and made sure I ate way before bedtime so that it was digested. DON'T over eat!

When they did the leak test on me the day after surgery the xray tech asked if i ever had acid reflux and I responded no. She then said I do now as she could see the dye bubble up in my tummy. I was prescribed Prevacid chewable I take once a day since and never had issues with it, but yes it does occur.
