Hi.
Can someone tell me where vegetables fit into the post sleeve diet? My husband and I started a vegetable garden last year and I will be sad if I can never eat my veggies and fruit anymore.
I am still on soft foods and I have been eating vegetables that are cooked, like a tablespoon with each meal. Sometimes I can finish and sometimes not depends on protein that I eat. My nutritionist said eventually you want to enclude vegetables and fruit atleast as one meal. My friends who are a year out can eat salads and any vegetable they want raw or cooked. Hope this helped.
Vegetables and fruit are important. You will be able to eat them when you are fully healed. Tonight I made a stir-fry. It was sauced with Hoisin sauce and the proteins were turkey breast and almonds. It included broccoli, cauliflower, red pepper, and crimini mushrooms. I did not eat the rice (the rest of the family did) because I was getting enough carbs from the sauce and veggies. I ate my turkey and almonds first, then I ate my veggies.
For lunch, I put 1 cup or so of frozen mango in my shake.
In the evening, I'll have some vanilla greek yogurt with blackberries.
For snack, sometimes, I'll have some dried fruit like mango, or a fresh orange or half of a banana (I just can't eat more than half). I'll generally have a few nuts or some cheese with my fruit. Or sometimes, I'll have some baby carrots and cheese or a turkey pepperoni stick.
I just try to eat at least some protein with my fruit and veggies so I don't have to rely on shakes for protein, and so that the snack/meal keeps me feeling full.
Don't worry you will be able to eat all the things after the sleeve that you did before. When you get to the soft food stage at about one month you can eat well cooked veggies and fruit without tough skins. By about 3 months you will be eating normally just smaller portions and hopefully healthier choices which include fruits and vegetables. I started eating salads at 2 months without a problem. You will always have to concentrate on protein but will be able to have the others.
