    Default Frustrated

My daughter got approved for the sleeve and her surgery is scheduled on 12-20. We received a call from the Doctor’s office yesterday and were told the doctor has some concerns about her mental health issues (bipolar) and her medications. This information was disclosed to him 6 months ago and he had no issues then. She has attended all of the required classes, received approval from psychologist.
We have already met her out- pocket- expense for the surgery but still had to pay $250.00 to schedule the surgery (which is non-refundable) and she has already completed pre-op testing.
I don’t understand why if he had any concerns he is just now address them?
He will make his final decision after talking to our PCP. Needless to say my daughter is distressed about this new development.

Well I can understand both sides concerns. Perhaps there is something more the doctor has learned since his initial visits. I also can understand your daughter’s frustrations. Perhaps reach out eh the doctor and ask if there is anything more that you or your daughter can do to ease this stressful transition? Perhaps some counseling or someone there during the hospital stay. I would think such a request should produce something positive.

    Good luck!

To me that's just down right dirty. If she passed her psych eval, what more does the dr want? If he had ALL of her info BEFORE making you jump through all of the hoops, I'd say it's just not right. I'd have a long sit down, at HIS EXPENSE, to see what the heck it s going on. Explain that you have disclosed all of your daughter's info in the BEGINNING, you have done all that was asked, PAID FOR EVERYTHING ALREADY, and want to know what's going on! If he is just NOW balking at doing the surgery, and in fact doesn't go through with it, I'd be tempted to mention taking legal steps. If he still won't go through with it, I'd demand your $250 back and take all of your testing to another dr. Sucks that they are doing all of this to you so close to the end of the year, when the deductible will start all over if you have to find another dr. Good luck, hope you get this all worked out!

I would be quite frustrated also. I agree with a PP, call him and speak with him. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

What are the concerns exactly? You said Bipolar and her medications. I am Bipolar as well, my understanding is that if the person is unstable (or was in the recent past) then it's an issue and I personally understand that (I am a nurse as well). As far as taking meds, I take Trileptal (at bed)and Lamictal (am) and Xanax (prn) and Clonopin (prn) plus lunesta for sleep. I have no issues with my medications.

I think that's awful, especially since he knew before hand. I remember being very stressed about my psych eval, but it all worked out. I hope it does for your daughter too.
