    Default Week 2 post surgery.

    HI everyone.

This is the tail end of week 2 post surgery. I am getting frustrated. I am to take in 30g protein in the am and pm. I mix my powder protein (unflavored) in milk and add stevia. Getting very tired of this. I am also to try to eat 3 oz every 4 hours. This is a struggle. I am doing everything I am suppose to but not losing any weight. I just started to walk. I hope this is just temporary. I hope I did not go through all this for nothing. I am hardly taking any calories in and am not losing weight. The only thing I struggle with is drinking 64oz of fluid a day. Any advise. and is the lack of weight lose normal for the second week post op?

Your body is in shock. Youre eating so much less and your body goes into starvation mode and holds onto fat for energy. Im 7 weeks out and still cant eat more than 500 calories. I do keep protein high 60gms. I cant get in 64 oz of water. Two bottles if im lucky. Weight loss will kick in.....do the best you can !!!

It took me forever to start losing and it has been slow all the way. I think it is healthier and easier to learn to live with as adjustments are made as you go along. I distinctly remember I lost about 15 lbs up front and then NOTHING for about a month. I was beside myself, thinking I was stuck forever after all that I went through. Well, I just had to be patient with the process. Turns out patience is not one of my strongest character qualities! lol! But it will happen! I still have 4 lbs to my goal, so life is feeling pretty sweet now. Hang in there! (hugs)

Thank you.. I am taking in calories but they are coming from protein shake. Today was actually a good day. I was able to do 3oz of a full liquid every 4 hours. I also walked 8/10th of a mile-that is a great goal for me. I know intellectually that my metabolism is slowing down, but it is frustrating day after day when you do the best you can and it does not show on the scale. I am trying very hard to eat to lose. I will get 55 oz of liquid in today. So hopefully I can keep this up. Thanks for
    the support.

tquorn, look at you ... you're already doing better than yesterday. That's what the immediate post-op experience is about ... learning to do this. When we're first sleeved, we can't do everything we're "supposed" to do, so we just do as well as we can and tomorrow we do better.

IMHO, you're being awfully hard on yourself. Give yourself a break. You can't do today what you'll be able to do in two more weeks. Or two more months. You're just a kindergarten sleever. Right now, you just have to not wet your pants. Calculus and proms will come later.

+1 on Ann2's comment - hard to express it better.

My surgeon's program repeated the mantra "every day gets a little bit better," and I found this to be powerful. It applies to weight loss, pain, eating and drinking ability, everything. If you can internalize it, the belief can be self-fulfilling.

    Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the support. I am managing around 200 calories from food and 500 from my protein shake. I am still walking and have not lost anymore weight, but I know it will come.

I'm 2 weeks post op..I don't know how I could possibly take in 64 ounces of fluid a day! I eat 5 or 6 times a day ...about 2 oz. and even that small amount seems like it fills me up. i think I'm afraid of stretching things out. I have been eating grilled chicken breast. is there a certain number of calories I should be eating a day?
