When did you guys start drinking coffee and alcohol in moderation? All of these summer gathering are killing me! I'm 1 month post op.
I drank coffee at about 2 months - that was about all I could stand without it. I never drank much alcohol before my surgery but I started to have a glass of wine or so somewhere between four and six months. Watch your stomach acid with the coffee. Alcohol has empty calories and your tolerance might well be lower than it used to be, so be extra careful at first.
I've had no issues with coffee or alcohol in moderation, was able to do them 2 months post op. Just be careful on alcohol, you may end up drinking more than your eating

Coffee, right away, just one then, now maybe two. It never bothered me. Alcohol, maybe around 6 weeks, no more than one. I know, I'm bad, I break the rules.
I resumed coffee the day I started full liquids. I have one cup every morning. I had my first alcohol at a wake about 4 months out. I had a few sips for toasting and then set the rest aside. I used to love wine with a nice meal, but it has lost its appeal for me. I just drink at special occasions now.
I had coffee about 2 weeks after and continue to have a cup daily. I have not tried any alcohol to date...the thought has crossed my mind but I havent done it. I'm not sure where my tolerance level would be now which scares me a little and I keep reading things about the possibility of carbonation stretching your sleeve and I'm not sure what I believe about that notion,(I am a BEER girl)....so I just refrain for now....
I had decaf in the hospital the day after surgery. Resumed real coffee 3 months out. I've only had maybe 4 glasses of wine since my surgery 13 months ago, and didn't have any in the first six months. I probably won't have any again until Christmas. Just wasted calories as far as I am concerned.
I couldn't stand decaf. It was awful. Took me a few months to try coffee again. My taste buds just weren't happy with it. And I love coffee. As for the boozer in me, Lol, I had surgery on 11/13/2013 and had my first drink on New Year's Eve. I was totally fine. I had 2 or 3 vodka/cranberries. That's my drink now. BUT - let me just warn you. I used to be able to drink. Really drink. NOW??? Not so much!! I have a few and I'm fine....... and then suddenly, out of nowhere, I am TRASHED!!!! It all hits me at once. And it's not the good kind of trashed. It's the "I must sleep now" kind of trashed. I don't have hangovers though. But I really don't like how it hits me all at once. And i'll only have maybe 2 or 3 of the small cups. I've got to figure out my tolerance. It's hard to drink socially when you can't drink more than 2 or 3 tiny drinks without wanting to go to bed. Oh, and many commented about wine. Used to love it but now, as soon as it hits my sleeve it burns. Instantaneously. Almost immediately after I swallow it burns. Like alcohol being poured over a cut.
So, there's my two cents. Try coffee when you're ready, and take it slow with the alcohol until you figure out your balance. I'm still working on it.
