    Default One month follow up...frustrated

So, I just had my one month follow up and I asked my Dr about stomach capacity, and she said I should be eating 2 oz forever. I don't really feel like that's realistic. When I told her that I assumed I'd have closer to a cup capacity long term, she said you may but you should never eat more than 2 oz. Is she saying that because she has to? I will never feel "normal" if that's the case. I don't wanna go eat a huge meal, but I didn't expect to hear 2 oz forever.

I am six months out, almost. I can a hamburger without the top bun. I can eat a 6 ounce yogurt and an ounce cheese and that's pretty much it. I can eat an 8th of a quiche. So it's any where from 3/4 to a 1 cup or 6-8 ounces. I started being able to eat that around 4 months. I friend can eat a little more. I try not to push it.

That's a bit strange actually. My surgeon says that I will be eating one cup at one year. He said that I'll be able to eat more than that, but shouldn't and that that is where many patients fall back into old habits. Maybe your surgeon is trying to prevent this.

I am almost 9 months out. I wouldn't push it yet. in the end you'll be able to eat "normal" amounts of food. You will just have to eat slower and chew everything more than a normal person. Don't panic your going to be fine.

I'm 6.5 months postop and still can only hold 2-3 oz. I can eat a small yogurt ok but anything other than that I get miserable if I try more than 2 oz.
My weight at start of my 2 week pre-op diet was 232
My weight on the morning of surgery was 221

I am 9 weeks post op and I can eat about 2.5-3oz per meal depending upon what it is. When all is said and done, I was told I should be able to get down 3-4oz of protein before I move on to veggies and then starches. So, I think 3-4oz of protein at one meal is the max and then you can add fruits, veggies and healthy carbs after that if you are not full. I was told I would be able to get anywhere between 1/2-1 cup of food per meal when I'm fully healed up.

If she wants you to eat 2 oz at a time, how many meals a day does she want you to eat? It would be impossible to eat enough to sustain yourself long term eating 6 oz a day, unless I suppose you drank 2 protein shakes between or something? It's just not logical. Wondering if perhaps she may have not made herself clear and she meant 2 oz of protein? odd

I was told by my surgical group expect to be able to tolerate no more than one cup of anything or 4 ounces max. Right now I'm at the 2 oz point with a quarter of a cup but I'm only 4 months out so I'm gonna guess everyones different.

Every journey begins with one small step....

StacyD, did your group clarify the amounts at all? One cup is 8 oz, not 4 oz. When did they say you'd hit the "max"?

Just to be clear myself, though my surgeon said that I would be able to eat more than a cup at one year, I'm lucky (?) to eat 4 oz at a time right now and that's all protein.

See, I'm right there with you. I am almost 3 months out and can eat .5-1 cup of food as long as I chew it really well. And I mean chewwwingggg. I have been eating like this for about a good 1 1/2 months now and my people are ok with it. Plus losing, stalling, and losing inches. I think some people only do 2-3 oz., because they are more sensitive, but for us steel guts folk, do what you are comfortable doing.

I'm 3 months post op and I find there are a few foods where 1.5 oz is the max (Morning Star veggie sausage fills me very quickly), but for the most part, 2-3 oz is typically my full zone for protein in a single sitting. I expect that to increase over time.
