Default What kind of foods should I be eating?

Hello. I am 3 weeks after my surgery and I read a recent post on here advising that mash potatoes should be avoided. It was one of the foods suggested to me during week 2 from my pre-op classes. I am on a stall and think maybe the mash potatoes may have encouraged that. What kind of foods should I be eating during the soft foods stage? I would like to know what is best so I can restart my weight loss. Also someone mentioned the 5-day pouch re-set. I've never heard of this. Can someone tell me what it is? Thank you!

What you are experiencing is the 3 week stall. It is NORMAL. Your body needs to readjust to all the changes that you have made. As for what sort of foods you should be eating that is a question for your surgical team. All Drs. seem to have a different opinion on what is needed right after surgery. I was also told that mashed potatoes were good in the early stages. Once you get past the first month eating the carbs just fills up the tummy when you are trying to EAT your protien instead of drinking it. Once we hit the six week mark they do not really like you to be dependant on protien drinks to get your protien.

The dreaded three week stall. Happens to most of us. Don't get discouraged! Stay off the scale for a while, and focus on protein and fluids.

On the soft food stage I was eating cottage cheese, hummus, soups (run through the blender if overly chunky), scrambled eggs, canned soft fruit, tuna, and SF pudding made with unflavored protein powder. Hummus does have a lot of carbs, but they aren't simple carbs, and some is dietary fiber. Fruit has a lot of sugar, but at least it's natural sugar, and fruit has vitamins and fiber too. Mashed potatoes or anything made with white flour has just about zero nutritional value.

i eat mashed potatos .. Potatos is in my believe not unhealthy in small amounts... they are rich in dietary fiber, vitamin C and potassium so it is a myth that there is no nutrition in potatos.... i eat it with blended fish , and i feel full for a VERY long time.. I have lost 19.8 lbs in 3 weeks and my starting weight was "only" 178.5 lbs , so i do not think that to mashed potatos has harmed my weight loss ... good luck to you :-D

Thank you all for the input. After going through surgery and the expense, I guess I am just paranoid about screwing up my weight loss opportunity. Your replies to my have helped greatly! Thank you!

Try mashed cauliflower. I've been eating it everyday. When I make it, I add in some Greek yogurt and Parmesan cheese for extra protein. It seems to satisfy my desire for potatoes.
