    Default Surgical/ Anesthesia complication?

I have been having issues with my lower left leg for a little over 3 weeks now. During that time I drove from WA to Las Vegas, loaded a UHaul trailer, had some 'appointments' and drove back to WA and unloaded a UHaul trailer. Yes,I am a busy girl. So one of the appointments was a last chance with my primary care to adjust meds post surgery. I told him about my leg bothering me, swelling, turning red and he said "It may be a blood clot, as soon as you get home get to a Dr. and if you have blah, blah blah symptoms on the drive go directly to the ER" Did I think it was serious? NOPE. I went on about my day with some aspirin, a store bought compression stocking (knee high) and iced that leg down at each overnight stop. I got back Thursday, unloaded a Uhaul Friday and went to a walk-in clinic today. I had never heard of a Deep Vein Thrombosis before....or understand what it entails, I am going to research that next. Now I get the joy of meds, shots and some sort of 'anticoagulation' therapy schedule. I am 8 weeks post op tomorrow. I still do not know how this clot developed or what I could have done to prevent it. Is this a common post-op type of complication? Has anyone else had this?

Blood clots are somewhat common.. especially when traveling a long distance for long periods of time

~ doesn't think she'll ever reach her original weight, no matter HOW hard she tries. Hell, let's face it, 8lb 10oz is not very realistic is it?

Sometimes after any surgery, clots can become an issue. Not sure what causes them exactly, I just know that's what they put those squeezy things on your legs for when you are laying in bed. For a few weeks after surgery, if you sit a lot, they recommend getting up and walking every couple of hours to prevent clots.

Sorry to hear you're having such a problem especially this far out from surgery. It sounds to me as if you were active enough and moving about. I don't know if there's anything you could have done differently really. Perhaps some people are just more prone to forming blood clots but I know it's always a possibility after surgery for this to happen. Keep us posted and let us know how you are.

They are most worried about blood clots the first couple of days after surgery, but it can happen anytime. So walk/exercise per your Doc's instructions.
