    Default Salad/Veggies - pleasantly surprised!

I'm 5-1/2 weeks out from surgery, and my nutritional plan has me adding new healthy foods each day to see what I can tolerate. I've read lots of things about how veggies, especially lettuce, give people problems, so when yesterday for dinner I had a little bit of grilled chicken and a few bites of salad (with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and chick peas), I expected the worst. Nope! I felt great! It actually worries me a little bit, because I haven't gotten sick on anything, except once when I had one too many bites of something. It makes me wonder if my sleeve is working, but then again I am very full on small amounts of food, so it must be. Are there others who have no problem with salad, or any foods, for that matter?

This is great, I am almost 2 weeks post and can tolerate all sorts of things in small quantities, well liquid and puree for now. Best of luck!

I had my surgery in May and have been able to eat anything and everything. We went to Outback for dinner last night and I had grilled chicken and veggies which included peas, broccoli and squash. I got really bad indigestion afterwards which is very unusual for me. Prior to surgery, I would get indigestion maybe once a year and this was the first time since surgery. I'm thinking it had to be the broccoli. I eat chicken all the time. Does anyone else have problems with broccoli?

My nutritionalist said the problem with lettuce is it breaks down too quick to water and doesn't stay in your tummy long. She said to make sure to have chicken with it, just a little lettuce so you will stay full longer.

That's great to hear! I was a little worried that there was something wrong with my sleeve, but it seems like everything is A-OK! :-)

Exciting news! My post op instructions state "no raw veggies for 4 months" and I love a good mixed greens salad. I did eat a slice of ripe tomato the other day but have not tried any crunchy veggies yet. I'll give my sleeve more time to heal first.

I did not even try salad until this week. (4 months out) I was afraid of the way it made me feel at first, but it stayed down. Of course, it was not a lot of salad. I got a 1/2 of a Baja Salad from Wendys, and ate less than half of that. The other half went down a little bit better the next day. I just have to remember to chew, chew, chew. I'm happy to be able expand my food choices.
