    Default sleep apnea

For those of you out there that had sleep apnea prior to surgery, how long after your surgery were you able to stop using your machines?
My bariatric surgeon had me tested for sleep apnea just a few weeks before surgery, which of course, I had it. Now I'm wondering how long I will have to continue using it. I really, really don't like it.
    Thanks.

I'm nervous about that too... I have to go for my sleep study next week. Good luck!

Ideally you should get your machine adjusted down. What tends to happen is that you machine will be using too much force before you can totally go without it. Everyone's different. In fact they don't fully understand why excess weight causes sleep apnea or why the loss causes it to go away. Theory is something to do with the weight on the throat, but it is strange.

Never had a diagnosis or used the machine but was a big time snorer and likely should have as I was told I stop breathing at times. Anyway, within the first couple of weeks, I lost 15 pounds and stopped snoring, according to my husband. I have never started again. So hopefully the results for those with sleep apnea come quickly.

I have been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea for 8 years. I hate the C-Pap but would not sleep without it if possible. It makes that much difference. I found out at the pre-op class that my doctor preferred we not use it for 3 weeks! I just about fell out because I paid $120 to fedex it to me on vacation when I forgot it rushing off in such a hurry! Now I am wondering if I will lose enough through the pre-op diet and the loss afterwards that maybe, just maybe I won't need it afterwards or at least by the time I get back to work. I hope not because I hope to be back after 2 weeks and I can hardly stay awake during the day without it. Here's hoping!!!

I just had my CPAP adjusted down because my apnea is not as severe as it was prior to surgery ... It's possible that eventually I may not need it but for now, I have the medical company out here whenever my pulmonologist says "Rachet it down"
