Default What is the average length of time off of work???

Not sure how much time to ask off. I do have a job where I get to do a lot of sitting.....Just sort of wondering a minimum time frame to ask of. I have seen some of you post that you were off about 2weeks....????

Hi , I am 10 days post-op and have taken 2 weeks vacation time, including the surgery and recovery. I am doing really well after surgery - no pain, no problems and losing weight. I am also taking it easy at home and will be ready to go back to work on Tuesday. The time frame seems to vary with everyone depending on the type of job you do and also if your surgery and recovery go well. But my surgeon said the average is 2 weeks. I also asked my work if I could extend it if I had a problem, and they were fine with that. Good luck, Sheryl in Brisbane

I had surgery on Tuesday, walked around the neighborhood several times on Thursday and was driving on Friday. Could have easily gone back to work in 4 days but waited until Monday.

2 weeks but I would ask for 3 just incase of any problems, then if you can go back sooner no worries. I was scheduled for two weeks, developed a blood clot in my stmach and have been out for 5 weeks. I finally get to go back to work on Monday the 4th.

My situation is unique in that I work from home ... and it involves mainly sitting.

I had my surgery on Wednesday, was home on Friday and was working Saturday evening.

My surgeon said 2 weeks is about average but as long as I wasn't in pain and didn't move around TOO much, I could work when I felt ready to go ... I also didn't need to take any of the pain meds they sent me home with so that's something that worked in my favour.

2 weeks seems to be about average but really, it's about what you are comfortable with and what you can afford to do ...

    Best of luck!

I had my surgery on Friday and came home on Sunday morning. I took off the next week, Spring Break, and went back the next Monday, so 10 days. I was fine the Monday after I came home. I cleaned out rooms, took the kids to the movies, went shopping and cooked, etc. All the things I normally would have done being home over spring break. But, I have had friends who were in bed the whole week after without energy to do much at all. I would have loved to have that second week off just as an excuse to be lazy, but it was back to teaching first grade, tutoring after school and then rushing the kids from practice to practice like nothing had ever happened!

I went back to work on day 6 post-op. It is pretty much sitting but a kinda high stress job. I was at the grocery store the day after surgery. Moving around has never been the issue, it's eating and drinking! I have hardly had a day that I have taken in the required protein or liquid or calories. I am 3 weeks out tomorrow and every day gets just a little bit easier.
So, like the others have said everyone is different and if you are able to take the full 2 weeks off then I certainly would. It was a challenge at my company for me to be out for the time I was.

It's going to be tough for me to be off work for 2 weeks also. Both my co-workers are out on maternity leave, so I am carrying more work than usual. I think I am going to wait until they return, but I am ready to get things rolling now! Ifinally made up my mind to do it, now that is all I can think about

Most MD's say it is depends on your job type and how you feel. I am a nurse so I have taken 6 weeks off because my job requires me to lift and my MD has put me on no lifting greater than 10 pounds for 6 weeks. I would speak with your MD about your job and his preference. With my job requirements, my MD would not discuss me going back any sooner than 6 weeks because of what I need to be able to do at my job. Your MD can advise you on what is best.
