    Question Full Liquid Diet

Ok, on Monday I can move from clear liquids to full liquids. What have you guys been eating? Do you have any suggestions?

When I was on full liquids, I made split pea soup among other things. I tolerated it well, and it tasted good and was filling. Hope that helps. If you make it with soup bones, it ups the level of protein

I'm just starting full liquids and most enjoy the Greek yogurt on my surgeon's list. But split pea soup sounds pretty amazing too! I think as long as you get your protein in there, your stomach tolerates it and it slithers down, it's safe. If in doubt, I'd check with my surgeon's office.

Cream of chicken, cream of broccoli, cream of potato soups...all good! Sugar-free puddings and light & fit yogurt or Greek yogurt, also good! Protein shakes instead of those nasty fruity protein bullets...priceless!

I eat anything I can blend up into a creamy liquid state. I made chicken in the slow cooker today for the family and put some in the blender with a little extra chicken broth for me. I had what they were having, just in soup form!! I also got chili from Wendy's (I love) and blended it up! It was so yummy! I've found any of the light soups at the grocery store will blend up nicely to make a cream soup. All the flavor without the chunks! If it is too thick, I just add a little broth. I get majority of my protein from a serving of milk, a serving of sugar free ice cream and a scoop of chocolate protein powder all blended up. It serves up 38 grams of protein in one ice cream shake! Can't beat that! I have 4 days left of "full liquid" until I get to go to "soft foods"!!

Hi Kim - wondered how you were doing. The preop diet is no fun and it doesn't make sense since if we were great at not eating, we wouldn't be on this forum. I know others have had soups and stews and all kinds of stuff blended but I wasn't allowed. I literally could have only a few things that I like and I drank protein stuff because I was experimenting for afterward (and it was allowed.)

I think the important thing is that a little weight loss goes a long way toward shrinking your liver, and a little shrinkage can make your surgery much easier to do. It is frustrating but you can do it! And yes, I'm on the same full-liquid diet I was on pre-op which is little more than protein shakes, lite yogurt, and misc. liquids. I'm so NOT hungry that I have to be sure to get in the protein first and well, there is no "second." I just don't want anything much. Try to look forward to this...you won't be very hungry very, very soon! You're so close Kim. Hang in there!

Well, I know different things work for different people. I have come down to only one way to do shakes, thanks to Diane, and I'm sticking with it because I just can't do the rest. I mix one 15g Atkins protein shake (6-packs at WalMart for $6+) and 1 cup of dry powdered milk. I use my wand mixer and blend it well then pour into 4 5-oz. dixie cups (the clear plastic ones.) Some I freeze and eat like ice cream, some I cover and keep in the fridge. Each has 100 cal., almost 10 g. protein, 10 g. carbs, and gives me 4 oz. fluids for the day. If I have 6 of them plus a yogurt each day plus sugar-free liquids between, I eek out 75 g. protein (the only thing I count besides liquids because I think I have a good balance of prot/carbs with my shakes) AND I don't hate it. I cannot do bullets, protein powder shakes, Isopure...the list goes on. I'm happy with this and seem to be losing a pound or so every couple days. I don't puree yummy soups or anything like that yet because I honestly am not hungry enough to put in the effort.

With yogurt, I have either been eating Greek Yogurt (1/2 at a time), lite yogurt without worrying about the fruit, or plain (like Nancy's - Fred Meyer nutrition center) that I get a big tub of, and add a bunch of splenda and vanilla to.

I didn't go to a nutritionist. I'm wondering why you're staying away from fruited yogurt? And I'm jealous that you're in a storm. I LOVE them! The coast is so bland. I think I want to move to Alaska when I'm thinner and healthier and can enjoy all it has to offer. Lucky you (except when you want to leave the house, hm?) Please keep me posted and share what you learn at your appt.!
