Maybe you should try more liquids. My doctor told me dehydration could cause hunger. I was hungry 2 days after surgery!!

Thanks although I'm drinking more and salivating more! I guess it's head hunger to the max but genuinely feels like hunger.

Is it head hunger when your stomach feels like a washing machine? It feels physical to me. I would say acid but I am having the acid relief pills so confused.

Hi Nadine, I'm eating about 1,000 calories a day and exercising about 3-4 times a week (not enough I know). But I'm still losing about 3 lbs. a week when I follow this plan. Some days I do feel as though I could eat every hour, so I try to drink a hot cup of tea or sugar free Swiss Miss hot chocolate and that usually takes the edge off. I have had days when I felt like my surgeon must have left behind too much of my stomach, so I know how you feel.

Hey there Nadine. I feel like there has been definite stages in all t his. I am m ore than 3 months since surgery. I do not think that it is really hunger that I feel. It is more like an empty feeling and I have to admit I have had to face it. I could eat all my stomach will allow and 45 to an hr later eat the same again. I don't!. I have worked out a schedule of eating and can stay with it well during the work week. Weekends we tend to eat out more but to be honest I think that I kind of freck out some and end up eating less than I need to when we eat out. I work weekly to conquer the new feelings that I face. One important thing that I do is journal my food. That way you really have to face what you put in your mouth. I have never eaten over 900 calories that I know of since surgery. I have slowly increased from around 600 for a long time to now between 800-900. Today for example I ate around 700 just because I was busy and did have time to work it all in. Sure I could have run through burger place but I decided that I did not want to do that. I waited til I got home and ate healthy. I really am eating different foods. Yesterday for the first time I did eat a small hamburger from Wendys and I did well. I ate the entire small burger. It was about 330 cal. protein was pretty good. I will not do that often but for a treat it was fine but my stomach hurt like heck when I was finished. Probably pushed the limits.

So to really answer your question I think we face head hunger with bad past habits (mental games) rather than our stomach telling us we are hungry. Good luck.

I have been told to be on 1200 cals and kept between 1000 and 1200 for many weeks with some slow weight loss. Now I'm just hungry and not losing weight. I am doing exercise but not particularly on days when I am hungry. How many calories are you all on and can you eat a children's portion like me even though it is so soon? I feel like I did before my gastric sleeve when i was on a diet and had to rely on will power. Problem is, I have none.

    Nadine...
Sorry to be blunt. You do not know how to identify
hunger. That is the core of your upset. It is not about
portions ect. Maybe you will learn the difference, most
do, all the successful long term losers have. Sadly some
    do not.
I understand your disappointment a lot of us
really wanted the surgery to be the total solution.
Can eat ____ and should eat _____ is the difference.
Everything can be defeated, just get enough liquid
calories and it won't matter what your portion size
effect is. This is just hard work. Good news it is just
so much easier with the surgery. I never thought anything
was really going to help me.
Good luck, stick with it you will do fine if you choose
    to do the work.

    /mike/
p.s. Will power is not a factor. If that worked none
of would have needed the surgery.

Hello fellow sleevers. Im in a bit of a pickle as I dont understand why I am so hungry.

    Nadine...
Sorry to confuse you with my post. I was attempting to answer
your question above. There are many knowledgeable members on
the board. Perhaps someone else can simplify my crude attempt
    to help in more
    understandable terms.
" Sorry to be blunt. You do not know how to identify

    "

This just my opinion, feel free to ignore.

    /mike/

p.s. Typing with one hand s**ks. I had surgery on my left
shoulder last Friday. Grrrr. Glad to get relief from the pain
of the torn tendon but this arm cast is mighty darn unhandy.
I went to the first PT they said their job was to make it hurt
(not lose range of motion) to take their pain pills BEFORE I
come. No arm so no contacts. Sleeping in the recliner with a
nice blur for tv watching. /end whine
Reason: Forgot to explain missing typing hand.

Nadine, I think what mike is trying to say is this. You need to learn to identify what is physical hunger and what is not. I've learned a lot in my first two months since being sleeved about this physical and mental hunger and it isn't easy, but it is entirely possible to get a handle on. All sleevers have a setback of some sort and yet others go through mental "breaks" of "was this even worth it?" because they don't feel it is living up to their high expectations of what the surgery would accomplish.

And again, as I have heard/read some doctors have made the resulting pouch to big and people are able to eat more than most other vsg/gbp patients. This is rare and very unlikely to happen. If this is very concerning to you and is effecting your recovery/weight loss you need to speak with your surgeon and see what they suggest you do...

Yea you're right I don't know hunger. I feel growling and the urge to eat anything. Can you describe it so I might learn? Also why typing one handed? Thanks, nadine.

Growling is not hunger. Since my surgery I have daily episodes of stomach noises that are really loud! Ignore them, it is just your sleeve speaking to you. Certain foods or drinks like Coffee make my sleeve extra loud.
